Is The English Patient good?

It was like notebook in that main characters died (not very romantic) and it was about 3 hours too long. But young Ralph Fiennes is cute!

I have never understood the appeal.

It's beautiful, I'm not sure how people can say it's boring or they hate it. I mean, the whole movie is a love story albeit tragic. The book is different but we're focused on the movie right?

Another AMAZING book-movie is A Room With a View and after that, you can watch Out of Africa. These 3 are my favorite epic romances. They aren't romcom/simple romantic flicks but EPIC romance movies based on books so you know, we're talking serious opera

^Last of the Mohicans yes

"I WILL FIND YOU!" - so yummy!

Seriously, you just won't see these epic romances again. And sorry, When Harry Met Sally is not epic. These are the love stories that pull at your heartstrings. Cold Mountain I thought was dumb but at least it's pretty epic too. There's no laughing in epic, just a lot of drama and often a lot of tragedy.

A Room with A View. See it.

I guess you didn’t understand the many comedic moments and subplots in A Room With A View.

OP asked for romance, she didn’t specify “epic.” Many people have suggested When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and similar movies. People have different tastes. People in this thread have loved, hated, been indifferent to The English Patient. Your heartstrings are not everyone’s heartstrings.

I love Ralph Fiennes. I've seen the movie many times and I'm a sucker for those period pieces that take place in beautiful locations.

An Affair to Remember is a must watch! Its a beautiful love story.

The English Patient has what I think is the single most beautiful scene of all time.

It's not for everyone though. The book is much better, but I doubt most people would understand it, since many can barely sit through and follow the film.

Atonement is epic

+1.

I guess I think if suggesting epic romances as they are typically so delicious. I'm responding to PP who insinuates that a romance can be just an easy romcom. I guess it just seems like if you can have a treat of a chocolate soufflé from a 5 star restaurant it might be a choice you'd like over apple pie which you could get any day of the week?

Cause there's only so many epic films v the 1000 romance flicks is another way to put it.

I also liked the book and the movie Oscar and Lucinda.

Far and Away is a good cheesy one.

The Remains of the Day is a bawl fest.

Anne of Green Gables miniseries from 1985, the first 4 hours of the series, gets me every time.

Far and Away has always been one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Even as a young adult I could tell it was a low-quality ego project by Mr. and Mrs. Cruise.

But the music!!! And Tom is peak attractiveness!

Omg, brokeback mountain. Best epic, sweeping historical romance ever made
