Is The English Patient good?

I also liked the book and the movie Oscar and Lucinda.

Far and Away is a good cheesy one.

The Remains of the Day is a bawl fest.

Anne of Green Gables miniseries from 1985, the first 4 hours of the series, gets me every time.

Far and Away has always been one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Even as a young adult I could tell it was a low-quality ego project by Mr. and Mrs. Cruise.

A romantic, similar period drama movie I like but doesn’t get enough love is The Painted Veil with Ed Norton and Naomi Watts.

Same reason couldn’t enjoy Bridges of Madison County.

Yes on Bridges of Madison County! Same thing!

The truly worst movie that makes me cringe from that era is Legends of the Fall.

The Big Sick
Casablanca
Titanic
Brokeback Mountain
When Harry Met Sally
Sleepless in Seattle
The Before Trilogy

It’s fantastic, I think it swept the Oscar’s.

Almost swept. It was nominated for 12 and won 9, losing in the lead actor, actress, and adapted screenplay categories.

From back in the day, Cold Mountain could be in this category.

It’s a movie with multiple stories, each one going back in forth in time. All being told at the “same” time. I think it may have been a better movie if each story told separately and from start to finish until it ties together.

So you mean a version for idiots?

Whether you like the movie or not, it's really not a hard film to follow.

I thought Out of Africa was supposed to be the king of all romance movies. Or the queen I guess. I remember it was a huge deal at the time.

I love Cold Mountain.

I haven’t watched it in years, but absolutely loved it. But, it is long, you need to be in the right headspace for a long story.

In the same vein of sweeping sagas that have romance in them:
The Horse Whisperer
Dances With Wolves
Last of the Mohicans

Oh Lawd no! Scott Thomas is not sexy with her clothes off. Cringe!
