True but now, you have kids selected with MAP-M 235 and 230 (maybe lower at a HIGH FARMS) while the kids scoring in the 260's or above are not picked. Common sense tells you that if you are at a strong base school with lots of smart kids you get a better cohort by staying at your middle school. At the same time, if kids with a vast range of scores from different parts of the county are placed in a program that the county thinks the students can handle and thrive, why not offer the same options at the home school for the kids in the pool? | ANother thing to think about before you take the spot is that TPMS will now have only 1 elective option for magnet kids instead of 2. They will no longer have the block schedule. Magnet students will have to the option to take a FL or band/orchestra but not both. |
This is one of the biggest drawbacks of MS magnets. DC ended up never playing their instrument again because they took FL. It is a huge regret. |
