I think people also forget that MCPS only had a few years of universal selection for CES and middle schools meaning everyone was considered and they took the top performers. But even that process had its "flaws" in terms of selecting "the best" because they tried to limit the number from certain schools and they created tiers based on the FARMS status of schools. Before that you had to apply to be considered so a lot of smart kids were missed if they or their parents did not understand the process or did not have time to apply.

True but now, you have kids selected with MAP-M 235 and 230 (maybe lower at a HIGH FARMS) while the kids scoring in the 260's or above are not picked. Common sense tells you that if you are at a strong base school with lots of smart kids you get a better cohort by staying at your middle school. At the same time, if kids with a vast range of scores from different parts of the county are placed in a program that the county thinks the students can handle and thrive, why not offer the same options at the home school for the kids in the pool? This is ridiculous..[/quote]
