Why does Diet Coke have such a cult following?

Oh shut up

I liked C2. Short lived item. Splenda & 1/2 the sugar

Diet Coke was never the only diet drink.

I have tried Coke Zero. It gets flat seconds after opening.

Coke is a completely different drink, Diet Coke is New Coke. I like Diet Coke and don't like Coke Zero or regular Coke. I get real sugar one sometimes for cooking short ribs.

Oh, OK. I must not like regular Coke then, because you don’t like it. (?)

huh. You compared Diet Coke to Coke, it's like comparing Coke to Pepsi. Different not just because of the sweetener. I prefer Pepsi to Coke, but Diet Coke to Pepsi. All just a matter of personal taste preference. I would take pretty much any beer over Diet Coke, so?

Let me try to go slower so you can keep up.

I did not “compare Diet Coke to Coke.” I said I would rather have a real Coke, meaning better to go for the calories and have a rare treat than have a Diet every day like many people do. I don’t know why you responded to *my opinion* rather than just writing whatever you want. Weird.

I will go slower too. I would rather have any beer than a Coke. It's not about calories. Coke Zero which is the diet version of Coke is less popular than Diet Coke which is the diet version of now non-existent New Coke. I responded to your opinion because it compares two different beverages, not a diet and a regular version of the same product.

Diet Coke is not at all a diet version of now non-existent New Coke.

It's for the lowest common denominator people. You'll never see it in the kitchens of the truly wealthy or elite.

OP, please learn what “cult following” means. Diet Coke is not David Lynch. It’s not Wilco. It rivals Pepsi as the second most popular soft drink.

No true Scotsman.

It tastes like burning. I don’t get the appeal.

The same reason people like carbonated water. The bubbly is addictive.

I don’t think you understand the meaning of “cult product.”

I just hate that people assume all women want Diet Coke. I cannot count the number of times I’ve asked for a Coke on a flight or in a restaurant, only to be presented with a glass of Diet Coke.

So is coffee, beer, chocolate, etc. It's really too bad we can't force everyone to eat boiled potatoes and beans.

Coffee is natural and people generally drink it in the morning. And I personally don’t know anyone who drinks beer and eats chocolate at all hours of the day. You Diet Coke people are junkies guzzling that science experiment at all hours of the day.

The only thing women who drink regular coke are boomers.

They are watching their calories and this drink fills them up temporarily.
