anyone else feel like they're getting completely broken in 2025?

Don’t worry. Starting tomorrow everything will be cheaper.

Insurance is killing us, particularly car and homeowners. I feel like the car is because police and the prosecutors aren’t prosecuting car thefts.

I am curious what kind of nominal amounts you are talking about.

My homeowners went up around 5% which is $100 nominal for the year.

My auto is up 10% which is $300 for the year. Two cars.

On a nominal basis it’s kind of nothing.

Yes, but I don’t believe either political side is going to fix it. It’s the rich against everyone else.

Insurance and tax hikes are DEEEE stroying us. They eat up any yearly raise and then some. My take home pay has gone e down every single year even after pay raises because of taxes and insurance. It is an absolute onslaught.

So what? Pay attention to the news. Many people got slammed with massive insurance hikes, particularly homeowners. I did last year and switched and still got a little increase this year. But it's not just insurance. It's insurance plus everything up increasing. And in the state of Maryland, car registration fees shot up (nearly quadrupled) and other fees are going up. All the increases add up. Significantly.

We can weather it but it's definitely outpacing any measly 2.5% COLA I'm anticipating this year.

Coupled with the horror show of the incoming administration and the miserable weather, 2025 is pretty sucky so far.

The incoming administration isn't to blame for your lack of employment or the miserable weather. Start a business and be the master/mistress of your own destiny. There are plenty of jobs to be had, they may not be to your standards, but you can go out today and get 'a job'. As another poster commented, your retirement funds should be secure if you had planned properly.

Why the anger?

Just trying to understand what nominal increases people are actually seeing in the DMV. Not sure why the “news” is relevant concerning what actual locals are seeing.

Any reason you don’t just tell me what your nominal increases are? I don’t know if you live in CC MD or Ocean City.

I was with Geico/Liberty Mutual. They threatened to increase my insurance by 50%. Dropped them and moved to Erie at the same rate I previously had. Am getting a minor increase this year.

The big increases, including doubling outright, is commonplace enough in Maryland. Everyone in my set has been talking about it and switching insurance companies. Where do you live that you hadn't noticed it's been going on for the last few years?

I live in DC and listed exactly the $$$ changes in my auto and home.

As far as I know, DC home insurance isn’t making huge jumps…perhaps because we don’t have a coastline so there aren’t hurricane risks spread across the state.

I would be curious if people that literally live 3 blocks north in CC MD have significantly higher rates for the same property value.

Trumps administration is about to take all of your social security, all governments pensions, add extra taxes to funnel to his external revenue Dept and you are worried about home owners insurance lol

Your stupidity runs deep. I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with you and your absence of logic. Take your TDS meds.

Same with us- health insurance has gone up by 150$ per month for 3 of us, so now is over $1000 per month. Home property tax increased by $2000 last year and now is $1000 per month. Our yearly HHI is only about $210K. We don't go anywhere out to eat except maybe 4 trips per month to Burger King ( for my child who likes it). We drive old cars ( 12 and 10 year old), so we will need to replace them in a few years for sure. I'm maxing out my 401K and my husband is retired from government, but works part-time. I buy groceries very strategically ( healthy foods though) on sale, use coupons, promotions, etc. at Costco, Safeway, Whole Foods, Aldi. My salary went up but not enough to keep up with the rise of bills/groceries.

Are you serious? Do you really believe this? People say crazy things and this sounds crazy.

Please say you’re joking.
