Name a case where you couldn't predict thomas's vote that went 5-4. |
This is the part I think is probbaly most relevant. "I would take a more measured course. I agree with the Court that the viability line established by Roe and Casey should be discarded under a straightforward stare decisis analysis. That line never made any sense. Our abortion precedents describe the right at issue as a woman’s right to choose to terminate her pregnancy. That right should therefore extend far enough to ensure a reasonable opportunity to choose, but need not extend any further certainly not all the way to viability. Mississippi’s law allows a woman three months to obtain an abortion, well beyond the point at which it is considered “late” to discover a pregnancy." It was a 6-3 vote on the decision and a 5-4 vote on overturning roe outright. So? Which of the 5 justices that voted to overturn Roe outright (and not just that part of roe Roberts mentions) did you feel was a swing vote? |
I hope she does but the betting odds that her replacement is selected by a republican is ~70%. Even if she makes it to 2029 there is a decent chance that a republican will be getting inaugurated that year. |
They can attempt to prop her up like RBG, but that's a long time. |
As the Democrats requested, Trump will now expand the Supreme Court to 13 members, appointing 4 new ones right away. They'll be confirmed via voice vote and in office by mid-February. |
Yep. As DEMOCRATS requested. Ask, and you shall receive. |
Won’t be a Democrat in the White House til at least 2045. So likely be fully conservative by then but maybe on 8-1. |
Hold on to your health, justices, until at least '29. |
Remember the Supreme Court kicking Jack Smith 8-0 in the shins in 2016! ![]() |
Thomas has been on the court for 33+ years, right? Does anyone know how long he has to stay to become the longest-serving justice? It has to be pretty close. How old will he be then? |
The record is 36 years, 209 days...so Thomas is pretty close. |
I don't think Thomas will retire. His entire time on the court has been getting even furbhid confirmation hearings. Alito probably but none of the liberals are going to retire with Trump choosing their successor. |
Sotomayor may die. She isn't in the best of health. If Vance follows Trump in 2028 and has two consecutive terms we most likely will have only one liberal on the court at some point. |
Nah, the definition of liberal will change so that Roberts, Kavanaugh and Barrett will be considered liberals. |
Aww that's cute you still think America with our system of government will exist in 2045. |
