What colleges are in Boston College's tier group?

The biggest issue with BC is the second campus that almost half the freshman have to live. May be enough to cross it off our list.

Maybe or maybe not academically- but BC seems just as hard to get in. I would put it at the low end of the Emory ND Georgetown tier. BC way tougher than any of the schools above.

Only because of TO. In 2019 and 2020 when tests were required BC had an acceptance rate of 20-25%.

Agreed

How so? I’m having a hard time seeing/making the comparison.

This. Most kids with the scores and stats still apply to ND and Georgetown. And then move to BC EDII if deferred or they roll the dice RD. It depends on the strength of the student. Some kids on the margins don’t bother with ND and Georgetown when it’s too much of a reach and just ED I to BC - the kids who are Top 10-15% not Top 5%.

But there's a tendency to be snotty about the lack of a campus feel (even though it's in a great area of the actual city.)

What does this mean? We haven’t visited yet, but we’ve heard the campus is beautiful.

Private, similar size, similar caliber of student, in or near a major city, similar wealth, social kids, etc etc.

Lots of schools are hard to get in because there are always more applicants than spots. That has nothing to do with the education and everything to do with popularity. Some schools are popular because of prestige, some for sports scene, some for party scene, some for "beautiful people," some for political protest scene, some for "pipeline to the street," some for arts, some for particular programs, some for open curriculum, some for project based learning, some for great books programs, some for internshirp program, etc.

Um, you misquoted that PP. You're missing the relevant part:

"Personally I think BU is an undervalued alternative, although it's also gotten much more competitive. But there's a tendency to be snotty about the lack of a campus feel (even though it's in a great area of the actual city.)"

They weren't talking about BC.

I don't think USC's quite on that level. I'd swap them out for UMD.

I wouldn’t call it beautiful but it’s nice, about half the freshman are assigned to the Newton campus and have to bus to main campus. I wish we had gone to look at that campus, just to get a feel, Newton itself is very safe.

UMD is not in the same tier.

Notre Dame is solid T20 school.
It's definitely a level up at least.
Why are people bring it up?
