If you were an average student with B's and C's

I got recruited for a sport, didn't want to go do that (depression), so I didn't go to college right out of high school. Over the course of the following year I figured out I DID want to go to college so then I applied to Indiana, got in, and went and did very well.

People around here make it out like what happens to you immediately following high school makes or breaks the rest of your life, but that isn't true especially if you have a family that can help support you taking a little more time to figure things out.

Stats show very few kids with a gap year (unless wealthy) actually go onto complete college. So yes for most it is better to go to college after HS

I agree that even the 1990s experiences are still applicable today because it all comes down to hard work. Some kids have the drive to work post-college, some don’t.

And if you B/C kids doesn't have the drive, encourage them to get a job--think fast food, etc. Boring, monotonous work, with annoying customers. After working that full ti,me for a summer or 6 months they might be more excited about CC or getting a 4 year degree. Help them see that there are many more opportunities if you just have any degree (think basic business if no other interests).
