All-gender work bathrooms

In our new building, we only have all-gender. In theory, I love this inclusivity and want to be inclusive to trans folks and all gender identities. In practice, women are finding that the men (and it's obviously the men) leave the bathroom really gross and a lot of the women are just avoiding the bathrooms in general. We've tried signs and reminders from supervisors but the problem persists. Any experience with this, ideas, or suggestions?

If true this is insane. As a man I will will very very uncomfortable being in the same bathroom with another woman.

Or, just put pieces of paper on the outside of specific stalls - one for people who don't leave a mess, and one for people who are slobs.

Or, just go back to what worked fine for 99.9%of the population for many, many years.

How many stalls in the airplane bathroom?

We have two separate private bathrooms. One for women and one for men. Just single use.

I hate it. The woman's bathroom is busy 90% of the time and the men's is empty 90% of the time. I now just use the men's.

Make them both unisex.

We still live in a society where women are routinely harassed and threatened by men, including at work. This is more than a cleanliness issue. There are ways to ensure inclusivity without making everyone use one bathroom.

Not you again. I don't know who you associate with but women are not routinely harassed and threatened by men. It happens, of course, but baseless fear-mongering does nothing to solve the issue. Using the same bathroom is not going to encourage this because 90% of the time unisex bathrooms are single-use, meaning they aren't being used together. Deal with your anxiety, please.

I know I'm just a grumpy old guy but I've worked in an office with gender neutral bathrooms for a decade and it's fine. It's not even a topic of discussion in the office.

The OPs problem seems to be that some of their coworkers are pigs.

Lol. I’ve never posted on this topic before, but good to know you’re making sure to police this particular topic. I so wish that violence against women were a figment of my own anxiety

I don’t think anyone has an issue with single-use unisex bathrooms.

Easy solution.

How does that help? Half the bathrooms will still be disgusting. That isn't an answer to this issue.

Uh, apparently many people in this thread do. They are complaining about how dirty the bathroom is, not about a man peeking over a stall. Single-use unisex bathrooms would have men and women using them, and apparently the men will still leave that bathroom gross.

Unless you think this thread is alluding to something else, and OP was disingenuous in starting it?

Our all gender bathrooms routinely have thick, chunky blood on the underside of the seat. I see this (as a man) when I lift it to pee. It makes me gag. I can only imagine it's menstruating women pulling tampons out while seated and having it swing, heavy with blood, like a pendulum smacking the underside of the seat.

So gross.

PP you are responding to. Feel free to start your own thread on violence against women, which I've already stated is an issue. It is not routine nor is it happening in the unisex bathrooms. It's happening on dates, at drunken parties, in marriages, perhaps even in workplaces, not in bathrooms. I think it's disgusting that you would use a real issue which is violence against women to perpetuate your hate against transgender people.

I'm a woman and that's exactly what's happening. It makes me gag every time too.
