It sounds like your son is significantly bigger than average, so the fact that he is often the youngest shouldn’t be such a big deal. I don’t really understand what you are so concerned about, honestly. Plus. He’s 8. Who cares who plays what position right now? |
The guy is listed as 6’3”. I don’t buy for a second that he was ever “the smallest”. |
Atlanta |
Buckhead (UMC/UC area of Atlanta) |
It’s discussed about him frequently in articles. He was 5’5” as a freshman. |
LOL. Then that has absolutely NOTHING to do with him having an April birthday! Just your classic late bloomer. IOW OP’s concerns are fairly ridiculous. |
And more of a reason a parent might have had him reclass. |
He's not big. He is average with his classmates. Maybe it shouldn't matter but the kids do care by this age which position they get selected for. They all want the same ones and they notice if they spend more time on the bench. |
Maybe, but a lot of kids in his situation just end up dropping out. I would rather he stay busy and active in some other activity than get discouraged and just quit because he doesn't make the team or get any playing time. |
“90 percentile for height and 85 for weight.” Y’all in Lake Wobegone? |
If it's an exceptional athlete that might be the case. I'm the OP and my kid doesn't fall into this category. He's fine but he will never be at the top for athletics but he really enjoys playing and it's a big part of his identity. |
| Golf might be a good option. |
Yeah, no. I know Atlanta. No way — I mean truly no way — are 90% of kids who play sports redshirted from January. You are literally living in a fantasy. |
Apparently 90% for age too. 🙄 |
Times have changed since you've lived there. |
