Why is the term "mommy" used so often now?

Maybe that's annoying, but it rarely is overheard in the company of non-family.


That's funny because I haven't called my mom and dad "mommy and daddy" since I was probably 6 or 7 but whenever I get e-mails from them they always sign "mommy" or "daddy" I think it's weird.
