My daughter and her high school crowd (7 people including her & her bf) ended up choosing to go to college in the same city.
Some of the kids ended up at the same school and others at one or 2 other schools nearby. I was concerned, but they're all good schools. Columbia, NYU, and I forget where the last kid attends but somewhere in New York. Against my advice (I advocated living in the dorms) the group rented a big house together between the schools. My dd is a junior now still close friends with her high school friends but also seems to have a group of friends from university too. She is still together with her high school boyfriend, and it is looking like they are heading towards marriage. He's a good kid, treats her well, and well educated, so I guess there's not much more we could ask for. I think a kid heading to college at the same school or in the same city as their high school significant other can work out alright as long as both kids can be at a school that works for them and neither feels like they are settling. |
