I'm confused why some of the cast was there. This was a reading of the pilot episode. Busy was ... Jen's college roommate, right? And they did three years in HS, so she wouldn't have been in the first episode. (I really hate her - yes I know she's good friends with Michelle.)

He looks awful. Hopefully it's just that he's mid chemo. Two stomach viruses is a weird explanation for not attending. (How would you even know you had two?) But it also doesn't seem like they would have set this up for a time that didn't work well w/ whatever his planned treatment was... so perhaps his treatment got off schedule for some reason and then it just didn't work out.

Maybe he had to bring in a poop sample to have it tested and that's how they know he has two viruses? Yes, I thought about this. My guess is it was hard to coordinate everyone's schedules and James and fam thought this would work. It was cute that two of his daughters sang on stage.

She cameoed as Pacey's English teacher from the pilot. Given that that actress was never in the show again, so no one cared about seeing her... and Busy was/is close to Michelle, it made sense.

I think Michelle, Busy & Katie were the 3 that actually spearheaded setting up the reunion in support of James. Probably got involved before they had the specific idea for what it would be.

Regular cast members who weren’t in the pilot read for other parts. Busy read for Tamara (she played the character in Dawson’s movie within a show anyway) and Kerr Smith and Meredith Monroe read for other parts as well. All three were with the show for several years so it’s not surprising they’d want to participate.

And Audrey was Joey’s college roommate. [\not important]

Michelle Williams, who set up the event, is married to Thomas Kail, who is also one of the producers of the event. Thomas was at Wesleyan with LMM and directed both In the Heights & Hamilton. He's one of LMM's original/main collaborators. That's the connection.

I didn't realize that; that's cool! I read one of the books about the making of the show, so now I recognize the name.

I am fearful that the reason he couldn’t make it is because his health has deteriorated so much. He doesn’t look well.

You don't look that emaciated from a stomach virus, or even 2 back to back. That's from intense, prolonged chemo. He's not looking well at all. I'd be willing to be he just wasn't strong enough to attend.

He does look terribly thin. It could be that it is just at the worst point in the chemo journey and that he puts on some weight again thereafter. Here's hoping, anyway.
