Best college town in Virginia?

Hey, even Lynchburg and Lexington voted majority blue in 2020.

How does this affect the campus?

Richmond is a great town, but it’s not a college town. College town’s are typically smaller towns where the college takes center stage.

How can college kids hate Blacksburg? Do they have something against fun?

We loved Randolph’s campus, but the surrounding area is pretty meh. Don’t stray too far from the immediate probably half mile radius.

But college kids typically walk to bars, parties, and restaurants.

I don’t know - I visited while I was a college student and wasn’t overly impressed

It’s neutral. In college towns, the students don’t really have true contact with the locals.

Northern VA is the best place in VA

DS is living on campus at GMU and having a good time. The school has really come a looong way in terms of activities and school spirit, but Fairfax isn’t like Blacksburg on game day.

Game day is usually big for the schools in the middle of nowhere and have nothing else much to do.

DP. Charlottesville traffic is horrible. Maybe not if you’re used to the concrete jungle of NoVa, but the city and surrounding counties have absolutely grown way faster than their roads were meant for.

You must have missed that just to the west of campus is the wealthiest part of the city near the country club.

I might not have expanded the radius enough. I know when we approached from the west (my daughter had auditions at Radford then Randolph in one weekend), we passed through what appeared to be a very upscale area with a row of high end shops. I was thinking of that when I said not too far
