Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Professional development days/grading days/pre service days are in the mcea contract. they can’t give some unit members an extra day (the transition day) and take one from others. |

Why are we still doing this the year before...can't we get at least two years out? Let's do both 25/26 and 26/27 at the same time. There are a lot of international families in our area who need to think beyond just a few months ahead for travel.
On the timeline in the slides it says: December 5, 2024 Board of Education Adoption of SY2025-26 and SY2026-27 Calendars
Have they even put forward a draft 26-27 Cale far?
|
They discussed it a little at the meeting. Smondrowski asked if they could have a draft ready to share by the October 22nd BOE meeting. |
So if it doesn't count as a day of school and it doesn't count as professional development, how are teachers paid for the transition day? |
| I remember this from back in my day. Glad to see MCPS is bringing it back. |
But all teachers would be working on the transition day, so it could be another professional day. |
Private schools count these days as a day of school. Any days kids are on campus counts towards their required 168 days: student led conferences, commencement ceremonies during the weekday, orientation, transition days, etc |
super double secret overtime?!?! |
OK...how is that relevant to MCPS? |
I don't know why that's relevant in the MCPS forum. Someone earlier said MCPS confirmed at the meeting that it doesn't count toward the 180 days of school. |
| What did they decide, or are they going to finalize at the October BOE meeting? |
They'll discuss it at the October meeting, but it won't be finalized until the December meeting. |
| +1 for a few days off after New Year's Day, it's cold dreary should take the whole month off. |
They said last night to MCCPTA that they are arguing to the state that it should count as a day of instruction. |
| Why would they make the Wednesday after Memorial Day a day off but not the Tuesday? |
