Yeah, that option's not getting adopted. They know no one's coming to school for a two-day week Dec. 22-23.

Those last few days, yes you can enjoy summer closing out, but also need to begin preparing for the new school year. Ensure everyone has their supplies, getting everyone back to evening/bedtime routines, wakeup routines if kids are normally slow risers/movers, etc.

Everyone who has been in the school district any amount of time, knows orientation or school sneak peak occurs on Thursday/Friday before school starts.

It's because the school year starts so early! For many market-driven industries the only times people can really take off and actually relax are the last two weeks before labor day (one of which is now taken by school), and the week of Christmas. You have to squeeze out the only slow time there is when kids are still out of school.

Why are we still doing this the year before...can't we get at least two years out? Let's do both 25/26 and 26/27 at the same time. There are a lot of international families in our area who need to think beyond just a few months ahead for travel.

So if they have 5 days of preservice plus a transition day on Monday, are they getting rid of a professional development day for teachers on another day?

You do realize all over the country many school districts go back at the very beginning of August or early August. We are not “so early” at all.

It allows students who are entering school at transition points (K, 6th, 9th) the opportunity to get acquainted in a smaller environment.

Board members raised questions about if the transition day would also apply to, for example, 3rd graders beginning at a 3-5 school, 4th graders beginning at a CES, and other students new to a school in any grade.

The transition half day already includes new students to a school if they want to join. There is only one or two 3-5 schools in the district. Sure they can get in on the transition day if they wish.

We have supplies by the end of July. We don’t do “ summer bedtime” so routine is normal at bedtime and morning is not that drastic.
We go away the last week in August because there are usually no camps, the beach is less busy, and it’s slightly cheaper.
Kids are in MS now.

Great, then your family obviously doesn’t care about the sneak peak/transition day that happens the week before and you’ve made your piece with that. So no need to move it to Monday for ya’ll.

There are at least seven: Chevy Chase, North Chevy Chase, Pine Crest, Oak View, Piney Branch, Cresthaven, and Strathmore.

Our cluster made it the last day of school which is already a 1/2 day. ie....10-12 graders were told not to come in for the 1/2 day and 9th graders did their transition day in June.

Huh, that's interesting. I guess a downside of that would be the kids wouldn't have their schedules for next year yet, so finding the locations of their classrooms or meeting their teachers wouldn't be possible.

Yeah, that sounds like an orientation, not a day when kids will go to all their classes.
