Executor not providing information and stalling distribution

Op, In Virginia, 6 months is a cooling off period since estate went into probate. Also, you can contact your county's accountant and they are supposed to help you with the communication.

With two houses I am assuming there is probably a trust or two. My father passed away almost two years ago and we are still waiting for all the paperwork to go through for distribution. It has been messy to say the least. Some of this is also on the financial management firm who are holding the trust. Dealing with them alone can be a bit of a nightmare!

Now my spouse has a sister who is sketchy and the executor of her parents will. Nothing has been shared about the will. Her parents say vague things about sharing information and that she will have had to earn it--whatever that means. We just expect her sister to take everything/nothing will be inherited from her parents.

Any update, OP?

We are nearing year two because of taxes and extension filed. I don't find it to be a big deal. I'm happy I don't have to deal with it.

When my mom died I was the executer and it took a full year. It was a ton of work (for a very simple estate) and I also work and have my own family and had never executed an estate before. It was just a lot. I’m so glad my only sibling was appreciative of me and did not pressure me or ask what was taking so long.

Waiting a full cycle year is advisable.
