My DH and I each had 1 sibling and our own rooms. We have a 3 BR house, never upsized, and kept our 2 kids in 1 BR so the other could be an office. No real issues with sharing. No static until a few months before older went to college.

Is that fair to the kids as they get older? Not having any privacy?

Firstly, they can have privacy. Secondly, yes it's fair for kids to share bedrooms. It's been happening since the dawn of time.

+1 I’ve always shared a room and loved it! There is plenty of privacy if you have living room/dining room/bathroom to escape to.

You probably need three bedrooms. Though if the kids are young or are all same gender, you'd be fine with two.

Crowing up we had a Brady Bunch set-up. 2 girls in one room and 2 boys in another. One hall bath for the 4 of us. Parents in small master bedroom wither own small bath.

So, both baths on the 2nd floor. No 1ist floor bathroom. We were requirted to clean the kid's bath constantly as that is where visitors used the bathroom.

So 3 bedrooms 2 bath enough for all.

We have 4 bedrooms. The two older kids share a room and the toddler sleeps alone. It’s likely they’ll shift around in years ahead. The fourth bedroom is a guest room but doubles as an office used daily.
