Crop tops at MCPS

It may be listed in the books but schools are not allowed to enforce it

This. Our school does not enforce it and the girls come to school in all sorts of questionable outfits.

My neighbors cited this as one of the reasons they left for Catholic school, so I guess the parents who disapprove of the clothing will just leave.

You all sound like grandmoms

Clothing doesn't make or break an education. Remember when public schools were trying to do uniforms? Focus on the education.

There is just no good reason for me to see the bottom curve of your 13 year old child’s breast nor yours in the office. Why? We are not at the beach. Appropriate attire for the setting should still matter.

You don't need to understand why people who are not you choose to wear the clothes they choose to wear.

Also you could take a look at what crop tops actually are, which is different from what you seem to think they are.

Those look nothing like what the girls in MS and HS are wearing. The girls at school have way more skin showing. Tube tops are apparently ok at at MCPS too. I almost feel bad as the girls look uncomfortable or are always adjusting their clothes. I don’t let my 12yo wear it and she’s never asked thankfully.

My question is who in the heck is letting these kids walk out the door in the morning dressed like they’re headed to a strip club? Booty cheeks, bare midriffs, cleavage.
I’ve seen it all at school pickup.
It’s insane.

The “who” is their parents and oftentimes it’s the mothers. They buy sexy outfits for themselves and their daughters on SHEIN and FashionNova.

Millennial moms are obsessed with maintaining their youth and sex appeal in ways that previous generations of mothers did not. And they pass that mindset on to their daughters early as well.

This is so sad to me. I’m GenX, of the baggy jeans and grunge era, and I’m so glad I grew up when I did before social media. It’s ruined us.

Tube tops are not crop tops. That is well known.

Why are you feeling bad about clothes that other people are wearing?

I'm Gen X, of the baggy jeans era before grunge, and I'm happy that kids (including girls) get to wear what they want to wear.

How would all the girl moms who are pro-crop top feel if teachers wore them? The principal?

I suggest the boys launch a mutiny by showing up to school in crop tops. Then we can watch mcps squirm as they attempt to enforce a gender neutral dress code.

Boys won't wear crop tops, so doing so makes no sense. But by an equivalent, maybe they could pull their pants down to where they feel comfortable and call anyone out who stares at them.

DP here. Plenty of us millennial moms are not "obsessed with maintaining their youth and sex appeal". The outliers get lots of attention on social media, but the actual generational difference is not that big. There has always been s subset of moms that live through their daughters in sick ways.

Why are (some of) you ladies so envious of teens with youthful beauty.

BACK IN MY DAY, if they could see your navel when you raised your arms, the teachers would SAY SOMETHING and tell you not to wear that to school again.

thank god those days are over.

Sigh, this is always the response of those who think it’s ok for girls to wear inappropriate clothes to school. No one is envious, we care about the girls’ well being, believe it or not. I don’t think girls should hide their bodies at all, there is a time and place and school is not it.

I'm Gen X and my jordache jeans were so tight my dad told me i might never have kids... lol, my skirts short enough that my school required shorts under them, my shirts cut off and my bra showed when I cut the neck like flash dance.

I even have a picture of my H in a cut off shirt (football though).

I fricken love how teens push the envelope.
