Crop tops at MCPS

do crop tops work if you have a beer gut?

This provision of the dress code, especially the word "revealing,"is extremely vague and invites selective enforcement:

"Is lewd, vulgar, obscene, revealing, or of a sexual nature;"

A Belly Button is actually not a body part at all. It is a Scar.

How would all the girl moms who are pro-crop top feel if teachers wore them? The principal?

I suggest the boys launch a mutiny by showing up to school in crop tops. Then we can watch mcps squirm as they attempt to enforce a gender neutral dress code.

Ok? I'm not sure what they would be mutinying against, but if they want to wear crop tops, then they should.

Crop tops were fine at my kid's high school last year. Lots of kids were wearing them. Also tube tops, bandeau tops, and going-out tops.

There is no dress code any more.
It may be listed in the books but schools are not allowed to enforce it

Men not boys wore crop tops at my school and every other school back in the 1970s and 1980s. Was popular for a while to wear Crop Football Jerseys.

My social media feed is filled with pictures of tweens and teens with crop shirts that show their mid drifts. They certainly look cute but, I thought this went against the dress code?

I think on one level, it doesn't matter. This is school, not a club and parents should parent here.

Same goes for booty shorts...

It just is inappropriate and attention seeking in ways that are anti-feminist IMO.

This will be fascinating.

Please define "feminism".

The addition of "generally" is how you know it will be good.

I generally support civil rights, but went can't the coloreds know their place?

I work at a middle school and choose not to say anything about how kids are dressed unless they are wearing advertisements for drugs or alcohol. I’ve noticed that many teachers who routinely say something to girls about their outfits focus on the heavy girls. It’s sad that those girls get hassled because they don’t look cute Nd put together in those outfits

HAHAHAHAHAHA, you think there's a dress code? And consequences? Let the kids wear whatever they want, nothing is going to stop them.

I don’t understand why people need to have so much skin showing at work or school. There is just no good reason for me to see the bottom curve of your 13 year old child’s breast nor yours in the office. Why? We are not at the beach. Appropriate attire for the setting should still matter.

This is a parenting issue.

I went to MCPS in the early 90’s and there was a dress code that limited sleeve length and pant/skirt length. No spaghetti straps. Of course, these rules were just for girls. Boys and girls couldn’t wear shirts with profanity or references to drugs but that was where the line was drawn when it came to restrictions for boys clothing.

As a mom of two girls, I encourage them to keep the crop tops on the longer side, meaning not much more than an inch of skin showing, but I do this because I worry about the judgement they’ll get from others rather than my concerns with them showing an inch of their bellies or back.

The world is hard on girls and young women and quick to dismiss them if they are attractive (and cruel to those who don’t conform to the standards of attractiveness).

It’s hard to know the right thing to do as a parent so I stick to what I’m comfortable with and what allows my girls the most agency within some parameters.

I see so many crop tops and tube tops in my high school along with leggings so tight that reveal to much in my opinion. I can't understand how parents let them out of the house with these outfits.

As a male teacher though, I am not touching it.

You don't need to understand why people who are not you choose to wear the clothes they choose to wear.

Also you could take a look at what crop tops actually are, which is different from what you seem to think they are.
