Two things I would add: Kids are generally only asked to do this for high academic schools. The coach will only pull for your kid if he has a strong chance of being accepted anyway.
And, if you read kids' commitment announcements carefully, you'll see that the ones who "commit" as juniors often say something like, "I'm thrilled to announce that I am committed to the application process at [[school]]." They have a deal with the coach that if they're accepted, they're on the team. But it's not set in stone. Since track/XC has a later timeline, you see less of this than you do for soccer, lacrosse, etc. |
