I put it in a covered bowl with just a little water. Microwave on high 2 minutes. Drain. Add butter and put the cover back on until melted. Add lemon and Parmesan.

I have AC too, but cooking something lengthy on the stove or in the oven on a very hot summer day puts extra unnecessary demand on my AC system and the electric grid as a whole. I also don't really like cooking over a hot stove or near a hot oven when temps are scorching outside. I keep my roasts and braises for cooler weather, and stick to outdoor cooking, salads, and stuff that doesn't take more than ~30 minutes on the stove.


This! It also keeps life and menus seasonal which is nice. All the people pissed that Costco has Halloween decorations should appreciate keeping the oven off in summer.


But then how do you make blueberry pie or lemon bars? I do not agree with keeping oven off for summer. I also need to roast a chicken if I’m going to make chicken salad. As they say, if you can’t stand the heat—get out of the kitchen!

I don't like to turn the oven on for dinner because that's like peak heat time, when the A/C is working overtime after an afternoon of the house baking in the sun.

I have no problem turning the oven on to bake pie or cobbler at 9pm, when things have cooled off a little. So that's when I do my baking .

In the summer I grill, poach, or instant-pot chicken for chicken salad. Roasting is for winter.

I've been trying and somewhat succeeding in my resolution to cook things early in the day before I close up the house. Then, we reheat.

I have window units and portable A/C units. There's no central air here.

Scrambled eggs are very quick though. And a small pot of pasta doesn't heat things up too much.

I was making some meal plans for the coming days and I came up with:


• Soba noodle/slaw salad
• Halloumi tacos
• Flank steak & camping potatoes
• Cartwheel salad
• Salmon croquettes
• Pasta w/prosciutto, tomato & ricotta

You can make fruit cobblers on the gas grill! We do it weekly with our CSA fruit while grilling dinner.

We eat a lot of BLTs with the amazing tomatoes in season right now.
