Do families really drive all the way to Bethany Beach for a one day trip?

We go back and forth a lot. We own a house here but sometimes one of us has to run home for the day to take of something at our primary home or something work related. Before we owned in rehoboth we took day trips here often. It’s a lot of fun actually. It was great during the pandemic especially.

I don't get the big deal. It's not that far of a drive, hell I've been in traffic from Potomac to Woodridge that took longer than from Potomac to Rehoboth.

Not a huge deal on a non traffic day. We can get to OC in under 3 hours. Leave 7am. There by 10. Rinse off when we get off the beach. Hang out on boardwalk. Head home at 8. Home by 11. Long day but my husband naps on the beach and he drives home

I’d never question a day trip to NYC, Bethany is closer.

OP, I agree with others that you seem oddly obsessed with this. Honestly, who cares? Maybe they woke up that day and decided to go to the beach spontaneously. Maybe there are 100 other reasons an overnight doesn’t work for them right now. You come across as insecure - can you not afford a week-long beach trip and resent that others might think they took one? There is clearly another issue going on here - what’s the real problem you have with them?

I’ve done it with a “ base” so place to shower, change, chill in the AC for a little while. I left with my then 3yo on a Sunday at 0630. Got to Rehoboth at 0900. Got changed in their beachfront Condo then went on beach for 3 hours with our kids. Had lunch then left the kids watching a movie with friends spouse. We went to the outlets. Came back and went for dinner on the boardwalk and took kids to Funland. I left at 8pm to head back and got home around 1030. It was a lovely day.
I live in eastern moco.

We go from DC for the day because we find it fun. We don't want to go for a week, and a weekend is expensive and lots of traffic. Get up early, get there midmorning, spend 3-4 hours at the beach, a few hours at the boardwalk having a late lunch and playing games, then home in early evening. To each their own.

I’m confused- were there multiple outfit changes? Did the caption say they had a “great week at the beach”? I don’t understand why pictures could suggest someone rented a beach house for a week otherwise??

Even a day trip can be difficult if not problematic; it’s not simple to park and just walk steps to the beach. Parking in Rehoboth is metered and residents have designated streets where they can park that can be blocks away from their houses.

Everyone wants to park near Funland, for instance and walk to the beach. Closer by the boardwalk the stores near the gazebo have 30 min only and you’ll get towed if you exceed. If there’s a concert and you park anywhere near the bandshell, you’re stuck until the concert is over around 930 pm.

The state park beach is somewhat easier but it’s also very crowded and they’ll stop admittance once the lot is full.

OP, could your ILs be cheap and or naive?

Door to beach and beach to door is more like 4 plus hours each way. 8 plus hours in the car is miserable and frankly unsafe after a day in the sun.

When you leave this area early in the morning and leave the beach after dinner, it doesn’t take that long. This isn’t hard.

Math is hard for OP.

OP answered this earlier by saying:

"the (pictures) were curated in a way to suggest it was a longer trip"

Still can't figure that one out.

It’s fine if you’re just MC, but the hoops some jump through to create a fictitious UMC appearance on Facebook and Instagram is strange.

Admittedly not in either of those much, but zero idea what you are talking about, with out any evidence of detail .

She posted pictures not on the exact day all at the same time and because OP doesn’t understand SM sometime you don’t dump all pics at once.

Some people have an insatiable need to judge people and read into everything they post.

These are the people the surgeon general is talking about when they say social media is toxic because they read too much into it and judge themselves and others based on it.

You’re unaware of people shaping their social media to look wealthier and happier than they are? Travel is a major component. Some go to great lengths to pretend to be something they’re not.
