Exactly but we had more than two bomb threats, gas leaks and other things. Plus schools need to put in pay phones.

Your kids are sitting in class texting you during a bomb threat and has leak? Really?

If your kid has a phone only for an emergency, there's no reason a teacher should ever see it in class.

No - they texted me saying the school was evacuated, police were there, and had I heard anything? My kid’s phone is put away during class (confirmed by teachers during conferences), but I want them to have a way to reach us during emergencies.

That’s fine. When most people mean cell phone bans they mean students should not be using them in class unless teachers asks them to.

That sounds reasonable but not sure it's really necessary. I mean I don't care if some kids watch tik tok instead of paying attention. That's their problem. I use parental controls on my kids phones to ensure they can't do that kind of thing during school hours. Why should the county be forced to parent for people who are too lazy to bother?

It is distracting to the other kids, and causes problems for the teachers. To me, that's enough to get rid of them.

Keep in their backpack. Not out in the desk where they constantly message, play games, and watch videos. Your kid is using the phone for entertainment, not communication with you. At the very least be a decent parent and turn on use restrictions to a few hours a day. But also be aware kids will try to download videos and watch things off line to get around your restrictions. You need to be responsible and double check their use. Don’t be the lazy parent who accepts every lie form their kid or order to avoid conflict and be their friend.

You make a lot of assumptions. I am not a lazy parent and those just wanting to ban phones are. My kids are in a lot of activities and other things. They don’t have a lot of down time. Maybe yours do so it’s an issue.

You’re not only a lazy parent but one who is failing to give your kids real life skills and instead rely on always being attached to mommy by phone

How do your kids with no phone contact you without a pay phone when they need picked up later, plans change, etc. you must have little ones or are a lazy parent who makes the kids figure it out, which is someone decent like me driving your kids too because you are too selfish. Yes, I expect a text or call if my kid needs picked up later or plans change.

It's like you're not even listening to other posters. They need to be banned in classrooms. They can be kept in a locker during school hours. They can still text you or call you to let you know about plans AFTER school. Just like the old days. We all survived without phones. Your kids can survive not having one DURING class.

No one cares if you care. You're not the one trying to teach class to kids wasting their time on Tik Tok. Just....wow. How unbelievably dense do you have to be?

+100. I’m all for banning them to lockers or home. If kids need them closer parents should be required to provide a lock bag.

You can reach your child. You call the front office. You ask to have your child brought down to talk to them. Or, if you need to come pick your kid, you let the school know and they'll communicate that.

Your anxiety and/or entitlement are your problem. Adolescents having unlimited access to cellphones is an enormous societal problem - but it's one we can actually do something about.

There's a phone in the office kids can use if they need to call home.

Its not the secretary's job and there are 2600 students. That's not reasonable.

You are entitled and have anxiety. You also want others to parent your kids for you. You are on your phone complaining. Bizzare.

Parent your own kid and get off the phone and spend time with them vs. complaining about phone time. Why not get rid of your phone too?

You have the rationale and mentality of an immature 12 year old. Focus on growing up.

How does banning cell phones in classrooms have anything to do with parenting? Did anyone here say kids shouldn't have phones at all? Nope. It's for less than 8 hours a day. It's insane that you think this is somehow an injustice to 12-18 year olds. They should be able to function without phones especially when they are in a supervised setting. I'm sorry that your kids apparently cannot do that. I think you need to do some self-reflection of your own.

It has everything to do with parenting. It's your kid and it isn't the school's job to raise them.

We all know that if we send the kids to the office they will get rewarded with candy for disrespecting the class and disregarding rules but here is what you do. Kid gets on his phone instead of doing the warm up. You go up to them and say " get the f out of my room". It will shock them. If they ask why you tell them that they know the answer already. If they ask where they should go you tell them " i dont give a sht but you cant be here, i will mark you absent like you were not even here" " you can come back tommorrow only if tou can follow the rules" mark them absent and let them explain the absence to the parents.

...Everyone knows that. Schools have rules that students must abide by. If a school bans phone, that has nothing to do with parenting whatsoever. It's the same as having a policy like any other in a school setting. You seem completely confused about your role as a parent in a society.
