Health B, a repeat of health A

Can students take it in the summer? Seems like a much better option.

This past school year, health was offered during the school year in the evenings virtually. My rising 11th grader took B this past spring. Agreed, it was a repeat of Health A which he took last summer.

Ha ha, yes I’m not an idiot and neither is my kid. He took health A last summer and is taking health B this year, which is pretty common given that health B wasn’t available last summer. Do you have any experience with these classes? If you did you know that they cover almost the same ground.

Actually, we are all idiots here. If we weren't our children wouldn't be in mcps.

My suggestion is to take Health at Montgomery College through Dual Enrollment. One semester of HLTH 105 covers both Health A and B. Take it in the fall for free.

How can I see the assignment grades on the parentvue app? When I look at Grade Book, it says GB not available for this school. I understand why- my kids are taking the class outside the school virtually.

The grades are only on Canvas.

I don't know much about dual enrollment -- can anyone do it, like a 9th grader? I had thought it was just for older students who were seeking college credit. And is the course available at night, or do you have to give up a class and go during the day? TIA.

My kid's Health B teacher this past semester shared MCPS's Health B scope and sequence:

In order to have your child’s credits transfer you need to go through the dual enrollment process at your home school. Your DE representative at your HS will tell you if your child/the course is eligible.

My kid will be taking Health A in the second session. Can anyone tell me if they’re required to have cameras on during the synchronous classes? And is it a participatory class or mostly the teacher lecturing? We’ll be out of town for the first two classes and she’s planning to log on but trying to figure out the logistics of what will be expected.

No one will care what your kid does - camera on or off. Teachers admit it is just repetition of MS health. What a waste. Is MC's health course any better for those who know both MCPS and MC's?

The classes are not the issue. She needs to plan to spend a couple of hours a day, every day working on assignments, which isn’t ideal if you are on vacation. It’s not difficult but it’s time consuming and there are 4-5 assignments every single day (including weekends).

My kid is taking Health A now. Cameras must be on. But teacher just lectures and hasn’t called in anyone so far (he’s done two classes).

Yeah, I’m the one that posted above about this ruining kids summer. My daughter took health A over the summer a while ago and it was such a painful slog. I felt awful for her stuck at the kitchen counter filling out stupid pointless sheets. I’m really not sure what to tell my rising 10th grader—he really doesn’t want to give up a class and refused to register for it next year but I hate the idea of him giving up his summer for six weeks of that misery. The MC DEciption sounds better but I’m not really sure how he would commute up there from HS every day.

He can take half for two summers so he’s only committed to 3wks per summer.
