Traveling in a maxi dress or dress in general - terrible idea or easiest to wear?

I love wearing midi dresses on the plane. Pant waists can be uncomfortable. The right dress can feel like a comfortable nightgown. Going to the bathroom in a small airplane bathroom in a dress is also a breeze.

Don’t your legs get cold? My legs would freeze if I wore a dress on a plane.

During spring, summer and early fall, I wear a comfy midi or maxi dress when flying. I love it, so comfy, and I’m vacation-ready when I arrive yo my destination. The maxis are great bc they keep my legs covered and warm during flights.

During winter and late fall, i like wearing cotton leggings and tunic sweaters for flights.

I wear cotton leggings, a cotton t-shirt dress and a cardigan. I have a couple of wireless bras because going bra-less is not an option.

I only wear dresses on planes, hate sitting around in structuered pants for long flights.

I never wear one on flights. And normally I should. I drape a scarf to fall over my chest. Otherwise, when in an airlines seat, even that's s not necessary.

I unsnap my bra during overnight flights.

Where cropped pants and a nice t shirt with slip on closed toed tennis shoes. Leave the dresses, sandals and flip flops for when you arrive at your destination.

How often do you have to run or escape somewhere?

Not often, but if you do, you don’t want to trip on your dress and fall. Could be the difference between life or death.

There’s a possibility, low though it may be, of an emergency when flying. Why take a chance?

I can't believe I am continuing to engage with this but: no one is suggesting wearing a wedding gown. A midi dress or even a maxi that stops at your ankles is not going to get tripped on. In fact I'd rather run in a jersey midi dress than jeans or wide leg pants -- greater freedom of movement.

But in any case there is also a chance albeit small that you might have to run or escape while at work or a social function. Do you also avoid wearing dresses to those locations? What is it about flying that seems to increase the odds of being chased for you? When is the last time you heard of someone being chased or having to flee for their life while flying or in an airport? The dangers associated with flying don't really involve a lot of running.

No, because it's a maxi so it's basically like having a blanket wrapped around your legs.

There is no way I would travel with this on unless I was trying to hide something. Sounds remarkably uncomfortable. And planes are notoriously cold. I've not read others reviews.

I unsnap my bra the moment the plane departs.

Legs are covered enough that no contact with seats on transportation or in public spaces.

Will not drag on the floor if you need to bend down to pick something up and you won't need to hike it up when going up stairs.

Something with pockets and that can be easily layered over.

Here's a good option for summer -- I'd bring a lightweight jacket or a linen button down to layer over it (or tie around my waist to be hands free if I got hot):

Another in this vein if you want something less fitted -- this would transition to dinner or drinks really easily with a change of shoes:

It isn't geriatric DCUM without a link to Chico's and a formless dress.

DP. I like this dress. It’s stylish enough for a travel dress. You don’t want form fitting for travel if you need to wear it. But this one is nice enough to look at.

I wore a midi dress recently on a short flight, and it was great. For longer flights, though, I prefer leggings; they are comfortable and easier for me to wrangle in the tiny, gross airplane bathroom.
