They are a terrible idea if there is an emergency and you have to run or escape somewhere. So are flip flops and most open tied shoes. Err on the side of safety AND comfort. Where cropped pants and a nice t shirt with slip on closed toed tennis shoes. Leave the dresses, sandals and flip flops for when you arrive at your destination.
How often do you have to run or escape somewhere?
Not often, but if you do, you don’t want to trip on your dress and fall. Could be the difference between life or death. There’s a possibility, low though it may be, of an emergency when flying. Why take a chance?
I can't believe I am continuing to engage with this but: no one is suggesting wearing a wedding gown. A midi dress or even a maxi that stops at your ankles is not going to get tripped on. In fact I'd rather run in a jersey midi dress than jeans or wide leg pants -- greater freedom of movement. But in any case there is also a chance albeit small that you might have to run or escape while at work or a social function. Do you also avoid wearing dresses to those locations? What is it about flying that seems to increase the odds of being chased for you? When is the last time you heard of someone being chased or having to flee for their life while flying or in an airport? The dangers associated with flying don't really involve a lot of running.
