Potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad

100% mac salad. I love summer, the season of mayo salads.

In the context of the post, I would choose the cole slaw. Store bought potato and macaroni salad fare worse than basic cole slaw from the grocery stores.

Most people these days do not like mayo. If you had a choice of eating mud, a slug or bird poop - which would you choose? Probably none because the thought disgusts you. There is no such thing as YOU MUST choose one. We aren't 5 playing would you rather.

That's hardly true, that most people don't like mayo. It's hidden in a lot of things people eat all the time. Dips, spreads, crab cakes, etc.

Just look at this thread - MOST don't! Hardly anyone I know eats it and they use substitutes in dips.

This thread is surely a statistically significant sample representing most people.

After heart disease, cancer, and automobiles, it kills the most people that go to outdoor events.

You forgot drowning, diabetes, anaphylaxis from bees/foods and anything else, and just about everything else. People are dying from macaroni salad at outdoor events.

are Not dying But what a bizarre claim to make. I can't recall ever reading about a death from salad at a cookout. I'd be more concerned with undercooked chicken from the bbq.

I don't like mayo so it would be hard, but perhaps the coleslaw and add black pepper.

I think the issue is that it's the same people who dislike all three of these foods.

Those people fall in three categories.

1) Mayo haters

2) Grocery store deli haters

3) People who hate both of the above

I am in the former but not the latter. I'd happily eat "Health salad" or "Pasta salad" from the grocery store. But unless it's somehow a cookout with no other food, that lasts many hours, then I'll just skip all the mayo salads. Or I'll eat whatever I brought because it's unlikely I showed up empty handed.

If I have to eat three because weirdly you had a cookout with no hotdogs or hamburgers or watermelon or other food I'll eat, then I'd choose potato salad.

We don't eat those foods.

None.

Its another one of those...they sure devote alot of space to it (mayo) at the grocery store if no one is eating it.

OP back again... My question stemmed from planning an event with someone. The event was a tight budget, and food had to be store bought. I suggested potato salad, thinking it was the bigger crowd pleaser (and judging from these posts it is) but they chose macaroni salad, which I thought was odd. I knew the dcum crowd would act horrified by all of them, but curious what others would choose to eat.

1.) I choose none of them.

2.) OK, if I really have to, potato salad. There's a deli in my town that makes a really good one. But I am generally afraid of all the mayo-based salads.

I think my dislike of mayo is part of a bigger dislike of creamy things. I don’t like creamy salad dressings either (no Caesar, ranch, etc). I don’t eat tuna/egg/chicken salad.

To answer the question I think potato salad would be the most popular option based on what I’ve seen at gatherings.

Folks here are full of it. I would tear up any of it homeade or not, vinegar or mayo based. Please get some deviled eggs too.

That's why I only eat dry crackers. You can't be too careful when it comes to food.

I never cared for macaroni salad until I went to Hawaii - it's an integral part of the "plate lunch" and it was so good.

Instead of macaroni salad do the cold vegetable pasta that is oil based. Far less polarizing. Or do one oil and vinegar and one creamy salad.
