Should Trump Drop Out After His Felony Conviction?

Anonymous
No reason to drop out, the polls are unchanged.

Imagine being such a bad candidate that you are tied or behind a convicted felon! Biden is the one who should drop out.

Of course he should but he won't. His sycophants continue to blame everyone but trump. The truth is that the GOP should never have allowed him to run as a Republican. But they have no guts and will make him their nominee and this will have a dramatic effect on dien ballot candidates especially if they are endorsed by Trump. As a Democrat I am delighted.

The Republicans don’t just need to lose, they need to LOSE. They need to lose heavily across the board until they get the message that authoritarianism is not welcome in America despite our flirtation with MAGA.

I worry that this is not what will happen.

Very unlikely given the consistency of the polling that this will be anything other than a very tight election once again.

He should be sitting in a cell rotting for the Classified Documents any other American would be.

If you are still a Republican you are no longer an American.

Biden has not been impeached because there is no EVIDENCE. Trump don the con was indicted and found to be guilty by a jury of his peers in a STATE court nothing will ever change that fact because Mr Bragg came with EVIDENCE.

Why not? Other countries have sent former presidents/prime ministers to jail. Even and especially in the US, no man is above the law.

He should be sentenced to home confinement and community service. He's only allowed out of Trump Tower to go serve food at a soup kitchen.

A creative community service requirement is the way to go. Perhaps make him record a bunch of public service announcements condemning his own election lies.

Well, that sounds straight out of the Soviet Union.

Uh, no hon. In the Soviet Union they would make someone confess to a crime they didn't commit. Or, Beria would just have someone put a gun to their head and end it right there. Or, send you off to a slow and miserable death of starvation, cold and injuries at a work camp in Siberia and nobody ever hears from you ever again.

Your boy Trump did the deed. All he'd be doing is clearing the record by speaking the truth.

What is the constitutional basis for taking it to the Supreme Court?

I would guess because one of the choose-your-own-adventure “unlawful means” options was “violation of federal campaign finance laws” (for which he was never charged federally).

But we will have to see what his lawyers say when they appeal.

What are you missing about PP’s statement? A forced confession is right out of USSR. Trump pled not guilty remember?

Well yes and many will believe it, especially if charges are later overturned like Harvey.

Won’t happen until your side gives voters something more than “But muh bortionz!!!!”

Um, that’s on your team.

I think the prosecutors will ask for a year at Rikers. He can serve six months beginning immediately and then get out after six months and be on give years probation.

Biden should pardon him. He should say that it is clear he committed crimes but that it is inappropriate for a presidential candidate to be put in prison by his political opponent and so he is pardoning him and let the best man win.

As a Trump supporter I say bring it on. It really would be non stop drama and non stop fundraising. Would be interesting to see just how far our corrupt government would go to undermine the will of the people.

Trump is just one person. He does lead an immense political movement though.

Yes.

Republican tax cuts have thrown the nation into over $34 trillion of debt, gutted the middle class, and produced a reactionary embrace of classical fascism as a solution to the crises of debt, offshoring jobs, and a lack of social and economic mobility.

Yes let Trump run. Let MAGA Republicans have their wish, the hellscape this will create will be fabulous for the idiots.

A president cannot pardon state convictions.

Only the Governor of New York can grant a parting for a New York crime and this isn't going to happen! Not to mention there is a no reason why Trump in should be pardoned. He has shown zero remorse
