Lol. It’s easy to claim anything you want on an anonymous forum, isn’t it. |

We are also in private for high school just for other reasons but have noticed this is also a benefit when looking at the most recent graduating classes and where they are going to college - also the diversity is better balanced in certain private high schools. I think people really need to think carefully before moving into the Wootton cluster. Going to Wootton is like living in another country that you didn’t ask to live in. It is not a culture or demographic that I would intentionally seek out. |

So essentially you’re afraid of the competition. |
Who cares if they're afraid of the competition. That's not the point. The point is how do you position your bright and motivated kid to standout as much as possible for college admissions. It's not going to be at a W. |
No. Clearly Asian parents aren’t and they are all scrambling for admission to state schools. No sense in having to compete to be at the top of the class and actually do so all to battle it out with a bunch of Asians whose sole goal is to go to UMD on the cheap. That kind of effort should result in much better prestige and reward. At certain private schools, kids are better positioned to land in T20 schools and they do get in if they have the grades. That’s not guaranteed at Wootton. I think Wootton will eventually become 80% Asian or higher once people realize they are killing themselves to up UMD spots and not more prestigious universities. |
Totally. Then when they get to college, they can start buying answers to homework and exams so that they stand out academically even more. |
Don't try to shift that on us just because its common at your kid's school. The kids at our high school weren't raised to do that and most don't have the money for it. |
Prestige that matters less and less each year generally unless the school has a notable reputation in industry for your major in college. Or unless you are going into academia. |
Says who? UMD is a top to school for which these kids can get in state tuition, with a worthy CS majors as well as others. Further, nothing about college admissions is guaranteed unless your family is writing 7-9 figure checks. |
You will pay all that money to avoid competing with "those Asians" and your children will still be less successful, because you just don't get it. |
It's not avoiding competing with them. It's avoiding the dismal results for extraordinarily hard work. If I told you you could work an 80 hour week and live in a two bedroom house in the hood or work a 40 hour week and live in a beautiful row house in Georgetown, which would you choose - to bust your a$$ for mediocre results or work hard and see the fruits of your efforts? It literally makes no sense. My parents pay for my kids to attend a private high school and you should see our college admissions results - extremely impressive and I can say firsthand that the kids had a well rounded high school experience. |
