What would dog ownership reform entail? There are already laws requiring leashes but agree that enforcement and penalties are needed.

No, people who love their dogs enjoy exercising their dogs unencumbered. They have zero interest in any leash law. They also generate the lion’s share of donations to AWLA.

The AWLA-employed animal welfare officer doesn’t want people flouting the leash law, as dumb as this law is. But he wasn’t going to issue a citation. The dog owner should have blown off the AWLA officer, then called AWLA HQ to complain. By implying he has a gun he muddied the waters when he was on solid ground given the zero chance any citation would be issued.

No, the problem is that they want leash laws for other people’s dogs, but think their own dogs are such special good boys and girls that they don’t need to follow leash laws.

So if someone threatens you with a gun but doesn’t pull it, you’re supposed to assume that he doesn’t have one? That seems like a really bad idea.

I don’t own a gun. I’m not sure what your point is. If someone says they have a gun, the prudent thing to do is believe them.

Why believe a criminal? What makes them credible?

If someone HAS a gun, they don’t need to imply anything- they just pull it out.

The only people making threats to pull out a gun are the people who don’t have one and are bluffing.

Especially in Arlington. I am not sure there is even a 2A supporter in the county, let alone private ownership of guns.

That doesn't mean the owner is selling to Arlington residents. You do know that stores can sell to customers from outside the county right? I mean, that's a thing.

We moved to Arlington last year and I have been SHOCKED by my how many of my the parents at my kid’s elementary school have admitted to owning guns. Most (though not all!) are quick to say they’re kept safely, locked away, etc. A few weeks ago, one dad noted that he would sometimes have unloaded guns out because he wants his 7 year old kid to be comfortable with them.

Remember this: while you might’ve been “shocked” by the number who “admitted” to owning guns - you’d be floored to know how many MORE of them own them and DON’T admit it because they don’t want to subject themselves to the judging of a close-minded loudmouth ignorant harpy. So however many gun owners you think you know - the actual number is likely twice that, possibly even more.

Well yes, that’s why I’m shocked, I’m sure numbers are way higher. I basically assume there is a gun inside the house unless I’ve explicitly had a conversation with the parent in which he/she has credibly affirmed no guns.

I can definitely relate. It’s a prickly conversation to have with another parent, for sure. But it’s worthwhile, because I absolutely refuse to allow my child to be around other children who are raised in homes where there are no guns. Because they are a bad influence and I don’t want my D around such kids.

Yes, guns are everywhere, hence why the animal control officers need to be armed for their own safety.
