Anyone in DMV feel the earthquake?

I can’t imagine it would take much to damage the east coast cities. Todays was 4.7 but none of these buildings are made for earthquakes like in CA, are they?

I'm the PP who referenced that earthquake (sorry, it was 2011 not 2010). Our chimney got a long crack that necessitated brick repair and repainting. My neighbor's chimney stack broke off and fell in to their yard.

Housing stock in this area is definitely not built for major earthquakes.

I'm a research scientist and can guarantee that I felt this earthquake in Montgomery County, MD. I can distinguish that sort of trembling (horizontal) from other causes (traffic, construction, etc, which are always vertical).

Strange that this is such a touchy subject for you. Here’s the USGS “felt the earthquake” map.

Did you know that the 5.8 magnitude earthquake 80 miles south of DC, in 2011, was felt all the way into Canada?

Please educate yourself on how far earthquake waves can travel before airing out your stupidity on DCUM.

Yes in Virginia close to the Potomac River.

Maybe. I'm near Olney and was reading in bed. I felt the bed move and thought maybe the cat had jumped on it but he wasn't there. I didn't think much of it until I saw this thread looked up the time of the quake (10:23 according to WTOP).

Felt it strongly in Boston. What’s interesting is the trees didn’t move at all.

Specifically, I was sitting at my dining room table and felt the floor shake. My Easter bunny paper decoration on the table had trembling ears for a bit. Sometimes our house shakes from large trucks driving by, but this was a different sensation. Not up and down, but side to side.

Yes! A mild side to side shake, making me wonder if someone was walking around or there were big trucks on my road.

Felt near Falls Church. The rumbling was sustained and gave that eerie tremor sensation in my chest.
