We get it, Jews are selfish, not open like others. Thank you for your education of us this afternoon. |
| Of course you can apply, all are welcome! Jewish people are incredibly open and friendly to people of various faiths, cultures, and ethnicities. You don’t need to learn Hebrew to attend, especially if starting in middle school, as not all Jewish people speak it. Child can sit and read quietly during Hebrew-specific activities. |
As a Jewish person, I do not feel like this poster. DS attended a Jewish preschool and there were many non-Jewish kids. He still benefited from the Jewish curriculum. This is so unwelcoming. Nowhere in life will you be just with people who share your beliefs unless you decide to move to a devout religious community that isolates itself. The Judaism I grew up with was inclusive. |
I think you're confusing me with another poster. I'm the one who mentioned Elon Musk. |
I looked at a lot of Catholic schools due to price and only one seemed remotely welcoming. Many were openly hostile. You are silly to say you want to expose your child to people of other faiths and ethnicities as if you did, you wouldn't pick Catholic. If there are open spots, I would think the school would accept OP children but it might be very uncomfortable if they are not religious or practicing (we looked at Jewish Schools as well but we are not practicing and it didn't seem that comfortable either). |
Jews don't recruit and convert people. If you want to be Jewish, it has to be 100% your choice and you'd need to convert. It's a very different culture. Also, many who choose a Jewish school tend to be conservative or orthodox and its a very different culture from reformed. |
Some of them have separate classes for kids who don't speak Hebrew. Some do allow kids without hebrew to join in MS or HS as I talked a few. |
From the website: No Hebrew? No Problem! We are built to teach students at all levels and do not require students to know Hebrew before they join our school at any age. |
You don’t need to be Jewish to want to raise your child in the Jewish culture. |
I wrote that post and was being sarcastic--poking at all the oh so shocked people who oh so sad they cannot send their kid to. Jewish school |
Unless the child is Jewish, it’s a weird choice. |
Oh please...I have never heard this. My daughter's Catholic school has many other faiths, including Jews. I don't understand how you felt that they were "hostile." Please elaborate and name the schools. |
Letting in a few non-Jewish students will not change anything. Your kids friends will still be predominantly Jewish and in the majority. |
|
PP is an outlier. I’m Jewish and have many Jewish friends and any of us would be happy to have a non-Jew enrolled in a Jewish school. In fact, I’d think it was kind of cool.
I definitely don’t think that attitude is prevalent in the community. |
As catholic as a catholic school may be, a Jewish school will be exponentially more Jewish. I'm Jewish and I'd sooner send my kids to a catholic school than a Jewish one. Too much religious education, not enough time for regular education. Too narrowing an experience (based on my friends who attended a Jewish school, which admittedly was a long time ago). |
