Barbour is a utility brand worn by sports enthusiasts for decades that is nothing like skinny jeans. That’s why people are speaking up. It’s perfect for what it is - jackets to be worn in the cold and wet that will last for years.

What sort of sports? I don't see these while hiking/skiing/climbing.

Shooting and horses. But honestly there is better technical fabric now. But they’re still nice coats.

But at some point it also became a fashion item.

This is like judging people who wear outdoor brands when they aren't on the trail.

Wear whatever you want, people.

I don’t think it’s a mystery, I think there it’s just a well-funded corporate marketing play.

Yeah, it's a relic of the old "preppy workwear" trend from around ten years ago, which became obsolete in favor of streetwear.
Of course you find people wearing this kind of stuff still, and if they like it, then cool, but it's definitely not fashionable.

Yet OP doesn’t seem to understand that people wearing it for fashion aren’t their only, or biggest, customers. She asked the question, I’m just answering.

My daughter bought one at a thrift store and it stinks to high hell. It has a musty odor nothing will get rid of and I want to burn it.

No, people are trying to politely school the PP who made that comment. Among those who have long worn the brand, Barbour has never been “trendy” or “dated” because people who view clothing in that way haven’t been the target for the brand.
Truly, no offense taken. NOKD

Yeah it’s distinctive. If you’re wearing it in a barn it sort of works though lol.
