Dp- I promise this weird hectoring about semantics isn’t emotional to those of us who trust women. The early stages of human development aren’t emotional to us. The health and safety of live, breathing, sentient women and girls is emotional for us. That is what we care about. We understand that an acorn is not a tree. |
+1 I urge thoughtful voters to look at the Turnaway Study and what happens when women are denied abortions they want. None of it is good. Poorer health outcomes, more death, more abusive partners, more poverty, unhappy children… if a woman wants an abortion, believe her. Forced birthers seem to celebrate horrible outcomes. If you really push at them IRL, they’ll admit it’s because suffering is what the Old Testament wants us (women) to do. Weird take from people who claim to follow Christ who urged us to create Heaven here on earth through kindness and love. https://www.ansirh.org/research/ongoing/turnaway-study |
Oh, please do speak up loud and clear and make this your main issue in the fall election. Please shout it from what the rooftops what you and the GOP intend to do to save all those embryos, all the legislation you want to enact, the banning of abortion from the moment of conception, the banning of abortion in cases of rape and incest, no matter how young the victim, the banning of birth control, the banning of IVF. Pretty pretty please make all of that known, loud and clear!!! Don't just come here on DCUM, go out into your communities, on social media, to the media. Come have some rallies and let everyone know what the GOP's plans are. Let everyone know what you think of women who have had abortions. Let everyone know how you'd like to force women to bring doomed pregnancies to term, in order to save all those lives. Thank you!! |
When someone can't defend their position, this is what always happens -- attack the messenger. Don't take the messenger at face value for saying they want to protect human life. Rather, I can dismiss the messenger's message without even having to engage because I just call that person bad, a troll, claim they hate women, don't care about women, want to use women, are GOP, are republicans, etc. This would be no different than me saying pro-choice people are evil because they actually want to kill babies. Can we not debate this like adults in good faith instead of making absurd arguments about not respecting women (half of fetuses are women, btw) or think women are just for reproduction. That is patently adsurd, and you should be ashamed for saying such things in a good faith debate about something as important as abortion. |
If there was a fire and a baby and an embryo were both in the building, we all know that you would be a monster for saving the embryo first. |
Not sure the point of this, but just because you may choose one person over another in a split second where you have no choice in no way equates to the other person having no value or not having the right to life. If a man and woman were burning, I would probably instinctually grab the woman first, but that certainly says nothing about the man's right to life. And if this is supposed to be an analogy for abortion, in 99.9% of cases, this is not the woman's life vs. the baby's life. It is a woman having to carry the baby for several more months vs. the baby's life. In the .1% of cases when the mother's life is on the line and you have to choose between the two, I have zero problem choosing the mother in that scenario and think all laws should reflect that. |
.1% - please back that statistic up. You are saying that a women is endangered by a pregnancy .1% of the time. Back that up. |
Here's a chart indicating at what phase of gestation abortions were performed in the US in 2019: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/ss/ss7009a1.htm#T10_down You'll see that 90% were in the first trimester, and only 1% were at or beyond week 21. The only times women are getting late-term abortions is when it's medically necessary. Which is why it's important to let a woman and her doctor pick the best option in these rare situations. |
You don’t think women are people. That’s not an idea worthy of debate. |
You keep yapping but aren't convincing anyone. Women come first. Born women. That is the only workable solution. Anything else is the enslavement of women. Nothing you are babbling about is in "good faith." |
Let’s put this in terms you might better understand. If you had to choose between saving 10,000 frozen embryos in a lab or a 5 month old baby, would you even hesitate to make that choice? And explain your choice. Embryos and fetuses do NOT have the same status as a person born into this world. They just don’t. And when it comes to saying whose body takes precedence, most people would agree it’s the woman. You know why? Because pregnancy is consequential in a way that people can understand. Al pregnancies have the potential to kill the body that is gestating them. All pregnancies have the potential to maim the person who carries them. That there is absolutely the reason that pregnancy is a special status unlke any other situation. If you value women and girls you realize they are the more important entity in pregnancy. Hands down. |
You don’t understand the forced birthers’ take on this: those embryos might be male. You could accidentally kill a future man because you’re a trollop. They can’t just let women make up their own minds and chart their own life! Abortion must be banned! |
Congress can regulate interstate commerce. |
It is very debatable. Don't have an abortion if that is your decision. Everyone will respect that. |
Cars don’t have a million parts. Cars don’t even have ten thousand parts. And if you put all of the parts of a car in front of me, I could assemble them into a car. Because I’ve literally done exactly that numerous times. I have never, ever created a human being. And neither could you, without becoming pregnant and giving birth to one. |
