When did your son hit his growth spurt?

Mine grew several inches in bursts at 12 then again at 13. He’s a few months shy of 14 and hasn’t grown at all in the last 6 months. He’s 5’8” currently with short parents but tall genes in the rest of the family so who knows.

My son just turned 14 earlier in April and he seems to be a slow and steady guy rather than growth spurts. He’s never skipped shoe sizes like some kids- has always reliably gone up a 1/2 size and his shoe size has remained stable the last year or so.

BUT, he’s been eating like a bull elephant in his prime and has had some heel pain (Sever’s) so I do wonder if he’s going to grow soon. He was 5’9.5” at his 14 year checkup and his father is 6’1”, so we assume he’ll end up a similar height.

Freshman year for mine. Finished 8th grade at 5’3”-5’4” and finished 9th grade at 5’9”-5’10” so about 6 inches.

I do think that is quite late. Almost all of his friends had their big growth spurts in middle school.

My kid's doctor said between 13-17, a boy can can grow as little as 1 inch a year to 5 inches a YEAR! I was like What?!

My son: 12-14 years old. So that is 6-8th grade.

It all depends on many factors from genetics to environmental to what they eat and do. I do notice kids who tend to be outside moving around and extending tend to grow more in the year.

Not yet for my recently-turned 14 year old. He is probably 5'1", maaaaybe 5'2" at the very most.

My son grew 7 inches in 9 months.

Most boys are on the smaller side in 9th grade but by end of sophomore yr to junior yr have had a growth spurt. My September born sophomore is 5'7 and had a little growth spurt last year but not sure if he's done, he has always been on the shorter side. But my 13yo is 5'6 and has not had his growth spurt yet so we'll see how tall he is.

My DS was on the early side and grew 8” between 11-13. Now 14 at 6-2” and pretty much done. He really stood out for a few years.

If he is only 14 and 6’2 I’m sure he still stands out a lot since that’s very unusual.

Yes, he is still tall but more so just tall as a human and less crazy tall compared to classmates. 6th grade he looked insane compared to his school and sports peers. Now at least a few kids have caught up. Plus all the other kids are starting to sprout versus he is done.

My DS finally hit 5 feet right before high school. In 9th grade now, and closing in on 5'3". His voice has changed/is still changing but zero sign of a beard. Hoping despite the change in voice that he has enough time to grow several more inches! Has always been very small. We were thrilled with making 5 feet for high school!

My cousin grew from 5 10 to 6 3 in his 20s. In his high school graduation picture he still looked like a smooth faced boy. It's kind of unfair that boys get to stay childlike for so much longer than girls. The girls in my sons 4th grade class are already looking like young women.

This was my post almost a year ago! Just took DS to his 15 year check up and he "only" grew 2.5" between 14-15, so I assume his major growth spurt was done between 13-14.

Though, the doctor said he's still in Tanner stage 3 and she sees a few more inches of growth in those old bones...

My son is old for his grade (July birthday) and grew a lot in 10th grade. Went into high school at about 5’10” and is now 6’5” as a senior.

Both my boys grew out before up, which was a harder phase than waiting to get taller once they started growing in height. I’ve posted about this before but we actually went backwards in shirt and short sizes when they were thinning out.
