Why is it better? |
Is it better? What are you basing that on? |
I didn't say Duke is a bad school. I'm simply noting that students are choosing the schools they want based on comments from friends and social media posts. Students are joking about skipping social events to study. Go look for yourself, or better yet, look at the posts with your HS student and ask their impression. Then ask them about the students they know that attend or apply. |
+1. Most of the students applying have no shot of getting in. Counselors are steering students and families away from wasting their time and money. |
Because Duke is extremely overrated. And the word is getting out. |
Yep it’s so overrated that they earlier received a 30% increase in ED apps ![]() |
Duke is ultra competitive right now, I imagine some kids just lost hope in applying |
was it not mostly due to an increase in NC applicants due to the new tuition policy? |
It's a DMV thing. The rest of the country sees Duke the same way vandy, Emory, rice, WashU, etc. are seen. |
Not sure what you mean. Can you pls clarify? |
Doubt that |
Lol, no. Southern schools are red hot right now and more competitive than ever. I think people just have given up on some of these Ivy+ schools RD. |
Huh? Duke has been a T10 for the last 20 years, people just see it as a T10. None of those other schools have been T10. |
So? |
Coming from New York, Duke is still a hot school for top prep school kids, it's just really hard to get in. They'll take big name kids or exceptionally smart kids, with little space in between. It's always worth a shot to apply though, so it's sad to see people giving up hope. |
