40th - trip to Nashville to see Taylor Swift on my birthday. It was a big trip over 2 weeks where I visited all the big cities in TN (Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, Memphis, Nashville). This was in spring 2023 so no 50th or 60th for me.
I think I may want to do a cruise for my 50th. |
I think it’s usually more about the friends than about the birthday person herself. Maybe that’s just based on a single anecdote, though — my friends threw me a surprise party for my 21st, and trust me when I say *nothing* about me says “surprise party.” I was touched, but I still think it was more about the group sitting around and suddenly thinking, “hey, a surprise party would be cool…” |

40 - DH surprised me and had a few of my closest friends come for a "party" at the house. It was very low key but a nice surprise.
50 - I threw myself a big party at home. 60 - I'm turning 60 the first week of February. The week I was born, the Beatles landed in the US and went on the Ed Sullivan Show and had a concert in DC at the Washington Coliseum. The new Capital Hall in Tyson's Corner is having a tribute concert on Feb 10th - the day before the 60th anniversary of the concert in DC. A tribute band is playing the exact set they played. DH and I are going to the concert. I've always known that "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was the #1 song when I was born so this seemed like the perfect way to celebrate. On my actual birthday, my kids, DH and I are going out for dinner. My best friend is taking me to get a pedicure and manicure and lunch a couple of days before my birthday. |
