How did you celebrate your 40th, 50th, and 60th birthday?

40th was during Covid lockdown so nothing. I want to go on a trip that includes whale watching (something I want to do that no one in my family cares about) for my 45th to make up for it.

DH's 40th we took a trip to see a fight and sat ringside.

I happened to be in Thailand for business for my 40th. A good friend of mine was on a Fulbright in a neighboring country so she flew in and we did a cooking class together on my birthday. It was great.

Not 50 yet but I want to do another solo trip.

40th-nothing because I recently had a baby
50th-Girls Trip to France
60th-who knows? Maybe Safari, Maldives, or Mongolia?

Same. I’m not into my birthday.

I’m not into most birthdays (except for children/ babies/ young adults) but do something special on the big zero birthdays (usually travel) to remind myself that there is so much beauty in the world and to feel connected to the Great Mystery.

Great trips for each!

I'm not into birthday except to the extent that I can use them as an excuse for something I wanted to do anyway.

40th -- weekend trip with family; a friend babysat so spouse and I could go for a nice dinner
50th -- casual party for friends and kids
60th hasn't happened yet, but we'll be out of town for a wedding, so . . . nothing?

Milestone Birthdays aren't a thing for me. Guess I shouldn't have commented! Just, not everyone will care or put energy into it. I care more about ordinary day to day.

40 - I splurged and had two margaritas instead of one.

That's it.

40th - four close friends surprised me with a weekend in Philly. We stayed at a fancy hotel, went to fancy restaurants, and went dancing at hole-in-the-wall hip-hop clubs. It was the BEST!

The 50th was during COVID; I dined outdoors on the water in Georgetown with my immediate family.

I haven't turned 60 yet.

This thread makes me feel like people on DCUM are older than I realized. I figured most were 30something.

40 - Had a baby so nothing
50 - Friends called my husband to organize and throw me a surprise. He told me himself that he told them we were planning a trip and put an end to it. We are staying together just for our kid.

So your 60th will be a time of freedom?

Your husband stinks, unless there's more to the story

40th, nothing. 50th, I hope to take a cruise.

A lot of people's friends having parties for them here. I like my friends but no one has ever tried to have a surprise party for me and it's hard to imagine anyone putting in that effort. Do I or my friends just suck?
