I am also surprised by the number of people who voted for Capitol Hill. After living on the Hill for 7 years, we moved to upper NW 2 years ago. You couldn't pay me to go back.

Agreed. we moved from Capitol Hill - loved it but moved to NW a year ago. Love it love it love.

In the District: Palisades -- friendly, walkable, unpretentious, well-located, with river views and easy access to the towpath and Crescent Trail.

Outside of the District: Somerset -- all the above, minus the river, plus a n-hood pool and school.

Ooooh, I forgot. The neighborhood by Sidwell has gorgeous homes!!! I took a detour through there when going to Barnes and Noble the other day, just to look at all the pretty houses.

In DC, Foxhall or Forest Hills. Cleveland Park if you could get one of the homes with a decent-sized yard (big, big bucks). In Maryland, Chevy Chase or Kenwood.

A lot of posters are citing Foxhall, but it isn't exactly a neighborhood per se. It is essentially Wesley Heights and Spring Valley. Or are you saying you want to live directly on Foxhall Rd.? I can't imagine anyone would want that much traffic wizzing by.

I don't get the Foxhall references. There's nothing there to walk to...and "$ is no object." is supposed to be a factor. I can't imagine that being the best place ever if $ were no object. The traffic trying to get into Gtown or other parts of the city and nothing to walk to kills it for me.

You poor thing.

I was thinking the same thing- It would royally suck to have just 1.5 mil for a house budget.

I couldn't live in Palisades or anything near the Potomac - the planes would drive me nuts. Probably a big house (with a garage for parking) in Martins Addition, Chevy Chase. Or the same in Cleveland Park.

you must be talking about Edgemoor? because the area around the MS/US is a lot of duplexes, until you get over towards Woodley Rd, near the Cathedral.

Assuming DC ...not suburbs => Kalorama. Assuming suburbs? Right where I am in McLean.

Yes, the lower school by Bethesda Row. There are some awesome houses with BIG yards back in that area. There was one street a couple blocks away I loved; the houses were set back from the street and it was so idyllic, it reminded me of the area I grew up in (not here) and I got all nostalgic.

Hey- me too. I live there (here?) now in a decent-sized apartment, but wouldn't mind either a grander apartment or one of the row houses.

I might want Logan Circle or Dupont East, too.
