Expected timeline to withdraw applications after ED decisions

This is not true.
ED is for everyone if it is your 1st choice school.
For those who need aid, you do the school estimator. You call the school and talk to see if they can give you an estimate. 3 schools my DS was looking at this year reached out and offered a pre-admit aid estimate. (Not an official name but you get the idea).

However if you want to merit aid shop to compare multiple packages - not just if your 1st choice school will come in to what they estimated - ED is not the right choice.

DeanJ from UVA said on IG this year that Ed wasn’t for you if you needed to see the financial aid award. I think she was saying particularly this year where things might be a little messy but not sure.

DP. Do they show as processed in idoc? If so, colleges have access. They may just not need them. Even if the docs show as uploaded but not processed, idoc helpline told me that colleges could still download if they needed them. FA can also reach out directly.

So, hopefully, they have what they need and will be able to generate a timely aud package. But, yes, it is fair to make sure what they send is in the NPC ballpark.

Last year my DC withdrew all other apps and declined the one rolling acceptance she had within 48 hours I think. Most schools had a button to withdraw app, but some she had to email.

Let us know. It could be they are only processing admitted students. Or maybe there will be a lag. My DC’s Ed1 slac last week provided the award with the decision. But that might be more difficult for a larger Ed pool like UVA. Is this a larger school?

This is a big school. I suppose that is possible my child will not be admitted so they stopped processing the FA but then the fact that the two sides of the house do actually talk to each other could suggest they aren’t entirely need blind as advertised, and they were fully lying when we called aand were told the two processes are completely separate and they just hadn’t had the opportunity to processes it yet. I would have expected them just to say they had what they needed or something. I guess we’ll see.

At some point before decisions go out, a list of accepted students gets sent over to financial aid. It’s a necessary communication and doesn’t change the fact that a school is need blind.

I’d love to see this quote. UVA is need-blind and meet-full-need, so this is very off-message if she said it about UVA specifically (rather than a more general statement that FA policies vary by school, so if you need FA be sure you understand their policy before submitting an ED application).

I think the drawback is that you can't compare aid from multiple schools if you ED at one. You could get full need from UVA and then full need + merit money at another school.

This. And the possible confusion this year with the Fafsa. I think it’s very on message for UVA because their consistent messaging is that at UVA there is no admissions advantage in applying ED. So if money is a concern, they’d rather you apply EA or Rd and not disadvantage yourself.
