| Agree on Jonathan Tropper--love his books. I laughed out loud on the subway reading Civilwar Land in Bad Decline by George Saunders. Also recommend Tom Perrota; British author David Lodge, especially the set in academia, starting with Changing Places. And Nora Ephron's "I Feel Bad About My Neck." |

Some phrases in Bill Bryson's books, notably the collection of newspaper columns "I'm a Stranger Here Myself", are etched in our collective family memory, because after I'd fallen off my chair laughing, I had to share with the rest of my family. My favorites are his recollections of winter in New Hampshire, specifically getting the Christmas tree, and skating. |
| I second Bill Bryson (and actually meant to add him to my post!) A Walk in the Woods is my favorite. |

Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh.
Noel Coward's plays are hilarious! I also love the Jeeves & Wooster stories and Carl Hiassen. |
This is OP - and I used to DIE laughing over Bill Bryson. I haven't read him in so long! |
The first Terry Pratchett book I ever read had one scene that made me laugh so hard I fell off a bench in a crowded London Tube station, eliciting comments from the stranger sitting next to me. I'll never forget the scene. (Lords and Ladies, which yes I know is a strange one to start with but someone had given it to me.) |

I do not find David Sedaris funny but I do find his sister, Amy, very funny. She has written some stuff but I have not read it. She cracked me up on Strangers With Candy however.
I am often amused when reading Nelson DeMille books, some more than others. |
Has the Incel invaded this thread? |
I am sure you have a very personal reason for this but it was an outstanding book. |
| Naked by David Sedaris was THE BEST. |
|
I’ll also add Gary Shteyngart’s work. Russian debutante handbook, his debut novel, is really funny. I haven’t read all his stuff.
And I remember thinking a Heartbreakjng work of staggering genius was funny when I came out but it’s been 20 years so I can’t really remember. |
For me it was the Fufi part. I absolutely lost it laughing (also while listening on audio.) |
|
Came to yell Bill Bryson! But I see others beat me to it.
Early David Sedaris is absolutely hilarious. His most recent works less so. Maybe I just find coming of age stories especially funny. |
Not just one. That book was both poignant and hysterically funny. |
| I read Do This For Me by Eliza Kennedy in a waiting room and laughed so much that a woman asked me for the title so she could read it too. |
