I know you're joking, but not necessarily. I actually posted about this here - just being accepted ED doesn't mean one can/will attend, unfortunately.

Oh I’ve seen “Junior will be joining The Tribe next year!!!! #Blessed” etc many many a-newsletter.

I guess finances aren't an issue for everyone.

W&M is in state tuition for many

This thread isn't limited to W&M.

This year, younger sib will apply ED to same school older sib chose. They have had lts of opportunities to visit and meet students and faculty in field of study, and we know what FA will be there. They also have several EA apps in.

My DC had a very different experience. Did not have an ED top choice, so went with RD. Did well in LAC arena (AWS), but not in T15.

Just wait til Winter Quarter!

Talk them out of it. Do everything you can.

My kid's "dream school" was of their own making, and I tried everything to talk them out of out it. Now they've applied EA and will learn of their rejection in a month or so, and it'll be a struggle to get them to choose another school.

Which is why they should continue to write applications through Thanksgiving. It will be very painful if they have to do it over winter break having just been rejected or deferred.

Mine actually found that a motivator. Did really well in RD.

Interesting. Our kids had pretty opposite experiences. Wondering if school connections played a role. Mine came from public magnet, and I suspect LACs may have been hesitant as there are more kids gunning for T15 than top LACs at her school. She did do well at a few LACs but not others. I had chalked it up to not being aware how important ED was to them, but could be wrong.

ED is for full-pay rich kids so my kid knew they could not ED anywhere. Easy peasy.

My DC really wanted to ED to their top choice, but the school stopped doing ED this year. So, so disappointed.

Temper their dreams, particularly if said school is a T25 single digit admit rate.

I have told my son that there is always grad school if it doesn’t work out in undergrad. a lot of these schools have many grade programs as opposed to just the one undergrad admissions

How many kids apply ED at multiple schools? We didn't even consider it based on the presentations from the schools. But talking to other people it seems they aren't worried about being penalized.

ED to one. EA to a few others
