Wow.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

If your husband actually works at HQ and knew you were posting this sort of stuff, he would likely be very displeased with you. If not, I am disgusted as a taxpayer.

Let me guess, you and your husband are white and republican and he's pushing for a Trump win to make sure this move doesn't happen so that he doesn't have to go to PG County?

I don't think Trump would care anymore. The main reason he was against the move was that he didn't want the current HQ replaced by a hotel that would compete with his. Now that he no longer operates that hotel it wouldn't be a factor.

nothing will increase property values in pg - it's pg.

And you are a racist. Many parts of PG are actually very nice places to live, but most of DCUM will continue holding their noses and being racist, while telling themselves that it isn't racism. No, PG isn't perfect, but no place is and there is no reason for all the vitriol.

The scope of local government corruption in PG will give the FBI public integrity squad plenty to do in their own backyard.

Some of you are just way out of touch and biased against PG county.

Since Rushern Baker took over the county in 2010, there has been a huge concerted effort to clean up the corruption that used to affect the county. The county has changed a lot in the last 13 years. Rushern Baker and Angela Alsobrooks have done a lot to revitalize the county, eliminate the pay-to-play nature of contracts and clean up the county.

And despite what the above PPs are saying, the property values in PG county are going up. The housing crisis 2008-2012 hit PG County hard. Since 2012, the house values and prices have steadily increased. The housing values are nearly double what they were in 2012. In fact, the relative value in PG has risen far more than in any other county in MD. That said, because the housing values dropped so much in the housing crisis, the home values are still affordable in the region.

Despite what the naysayers say, PG county has some very nice areas and the housing values are strong here. The Greenbelt location will save the federal government a lot of money for construction and is an ideal location. There are many federal agencies that are located nearby such as FDA, NASA, National Archives, IRS and they have many civil servants and contractors who live in PG County who work for all of these agencies. And, while many of the FBI do not currently live in the area, because the home values are so affordable, you will likely find that a significant number of FBI families may decide to relocate to be nearer the HQ. Because the area is so much more affordable, not only in home prices, but prices in general, those families will achieve a significant boost in quality of life when they aren't so house-poor and have more money leftover after paying for the basics.

Landover is a dump and Greenbelt, while perhaps slightly better than Landover, is a PITA to get to relative to where most of the workforce lives. Truth be told, people wanted to stay in DC. However, given that wasn’t an option, Springfield was the clear preference.

There's a secret CIA building near the Springfield, VA site that would create a nightmare for security if construction broke ground. That was a deciding factor.

Not PP you replied to, but don't be ridiculous. This isn't privileged information. Of course decisions can, and have been, reversed.

Separately, I think Greenbelt is the best choice.

Exactly. The article in the Post is a bit of a tip off that the FBI is displeased. First and foremost, they want significant continued presence in downtown DC for the FBI director and senior officials for proximity to DOJ and the White House.

I’m guessing over time that there will be some people relocating closer to the new HQ, particularly Anne Arundel and Howard counties.

It will be interesting if there is an influence on local politics. 5,000 FBI families could certainly tip the balance of local elections.

Most people will continue living where they currently live and drive to Greenbelt.

New hires or people relocating from field offices to HQ probably not.

So secret that you posted the location on a public message board. Um hm.

If they build it, will it affect property values in Hyattsville? Or are we too far away?

This is a known factor, it was discussed way back in 2013 or 2014 when discussions about a new HQ were first going on. However I thought that they had resolved this issue when Trump lost re-election and a new HQ was back on the table at the Springfield site.

Thinking College Park house prices are going to jump 25% — the FBI plus a new-found realization of the attractions of living in a college town — how are the public schools?

- There’s going to be an investigation into the political meddling with the GSA.
- Congress actually has to appropriate the funds to build a new HQ.

It will be 10-15 years before we get a new FBI headquarters — whether or not it’s actually built in Greenbelt.
