Mournjaro now approved for weight loss under name Zepbound

Okay but look at from another perspective. At $1K a month for Zepbound you're essentially exchanging out expensive, bad for you food habits like fast food, Door Dash, eating out, Starbucks lattes, and booze which easily add up to $1K a month if not more. Adding to that most people using it for weight loss will be on it for a relatively short period of time as compared to a life saving drug that someone may need to be on for their entire lives. So all in all you may spend $6K-$8K on the meds while saving a ton on foods you would ordinarily be buying - and if you take the time to learn good food habits while you're on the drug then you can successfully get off the drug and stay off, or cycle off and on. That part is up to you since you're in control of what you choose to eat.

I'm obese, and I don't spend anywhere close to $1K a month on all food, nevermind just fast food, Door Dash, etc.

I eat home cooked meals with lots of veggies. I also eat too many carbs, but no where close to $1K a month worth.

I agree. I’m overweight. Our family of 5 spends $300+ on eating out each out.

It would save us $300 or less. Not $1000.

Groceries are almost all healthy. What isn’t healthy I don’t eat much of those - those are for kids and DH.

I’ve been on Mounjaro for a year and lost nearly 70 pounds. It’s been amazing and has helped me change my eating habits. I can now exercise more - less pain and issues due to being at a lower weight.

Did you or do you have bad side effects like some people report having on Wegovy? I saw some reported side effects with this drug of mild gastric upset.

NP. I had pretty bad reflux at night so couldn't eat much after 5pm. I had reflux before the medicine, like I normally couldn't eat after about 7pm, but this ramped it up. That was my only side effect. I stopped it for a colonoscopy at the end of the summer and haven't gotten back on. I haven't gained any weight back either, so pretty happy about that. I was on it 6 months and lost 25 lbs.

I had an almost identical experience. I lost 35 pounds before getting off Wegovy last June. I would have stayed on, but I lost enough weight that my insurance company would no longer pay for it. Haven't lost more weight but haven't gained any back either.

Your experience is not the norm. Even the pharma companies say that 2/3 of GLP1 patients out the weight back on when they discontinue the drug. From what I’m seeing in the wild, it’s much higher than that.

Do you have a source?

Straight from NovoNordisk. As many doctors have found, people who go off these drugs often regain more.

Isn’t that true of all weight loss?

Not to the same extent. As we stated, GLP1s cause massive muscle loss, which lowers metabolism.

No it doesn't. Rapid weight loss causes massive muscle loss if care isn't taken to preserve lean mass.

Oh good, maybe now I’ll be able to find my ozempic for type 2 diabetes in stock. So tired of this BS.

It’s fine, calm down there. Why so bitter? I don’t know anyone obese who uses it, but the women I know who use it for 10-20 pound losses to get skinny all look wonderful and healthy. And they are happy. So stop spreading half truths meant to hurt people and make them feel bad about decisions that make them happy.

When you are thin, it’s very easy to build lean muscle mass.

Mounjaro was such a godsend for me. I was incredibly overweight from the pandemic, eating and drinking way too much, depressed, and not the best mom to my two little kids. I lost 50 lbs in six months and have kept it off off of the drugs. Feel amazing now. I am so happy this will be available to more people.

Huh? I’m not bitter. I’m refuting the false notion that Ozempic etc causes muscle wasting. Rapid weight loss includes muscle loss as well as fat.

This isn’t necessarily true. It’s entirely individual.

PP let the critics say what they want, then maybe it’ll deter enough people and I can find it again easily at my pharmacy.

Absolutely not. I don’t want anyone whose life could be changed for the better with to hesitate to try one of these medications over bad information.

Congrats PP! Any tips for keeping it off once stopping? I’ve lost enough weight and ready to stop Wegovy

I'm on Wegovy and losing a steady 1-2 lbs per week. No muscle wasting and no saggy skin here. It's a good, sustainable rate of loss, not overly fast.

If you see this again, did taking the medicine help you cut back on drinking?

NP here. Oh yay, it's so great for girls out there that already thin women take drugs so they can become super skinny, because there's nothing more important in the world than being skinny. But yay for these women! They are so happy! Gotta love rich white women culture Never change.
