Trick or treating anxiety. Am I the only one?

PPs: You have issues, seek treatment, that's not right!

Some of you need to check your reactions!

FWIW Op I get very anxious on Halloween too about cars hitting pedestrians in the dark.

Where's the lie

If you want to worry about something on Halloween, worry about kids being hit by a car because they run across the street without looking. Put a bike light or some glow stick bracelets on your kid and keep them close.

Yes total anxiety. The biggest risk tonight is cars. Pay attention to that.

OP I’m sympathetic because I’m more stressed about the cars which is a more realistic issue I guess but I feel like I’m the psycho mom every year making my elementary school aged kids follow regular safety rules (walk on the grass not the road, cross at cross walks, stay with the group) while I see other parents drinking and barely watching while their kids run through the roads. I think they are going to far in relaxing but I get stressed out every year and get upset with my kid who gets hyper and does stupid stuff (one has ADHD and is just bananas with all the excitement) so I am not sure I’m any better. I keep trying to be calmer and kinder while I keep my kids safe and I fail every year. So don’t be like me- try to find a middle ground.

Rules for trick or treating: You check the candy for anything weird or open before your kids eat it. Bring a flashlight or something that lights up because cars are a far bigger concern than adulterated candy.

Plus drugs are expensive! No one gives them away!

I keep imagining him eating something that someone poisoned or ingesting a drug that someone accidentally gave him. Yes, I do have anxiety. Yes, I’m in therapy and on medication. I was feeling ok about it, but now that Halloween is so close I feel sick about it. Is it crazy to throw his candy in the trash and trade it for some I buy at the store?

This is why Trunk or Treat events, or just Halloween at home, are preferable.
