Does anyone know when/how to register for spring online Health B? I don’t see a place to register on ParentVUE and the info isn’t on MCPS website yet. https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/onlinelearning/registration/

| You can only do online in the summer |

Oddly my DDs counselor also recently mentioned something to me about online Health during the spring semester. Based on the context it must be during a non-instructional time of day (like evening or lunchtime). I gathered this was on top of a full seven class schedule but I don’t really know anything else about it yet. I think a school counselor would be most likely to have a handle on this.
I somehow doubt they would recommend an overloaded course schedule like this unless required. It may be they are just doing this for Health B for kids that have gotten stuck (like the student is doing early college and the requirement is new and not available during summer school). |
They do offer an online version during the school year. Typically registration for online classes is fairly close to the start date, not far in advance. |
| Are there that many electives that students want to take that they can't use one of their 10th grade classes for Health? Is Health more work when taken during the regular school year and day than taking it virtually over the summer? I would think it is an easy course to balance out a schedule. |
Yes, and for things like band you can take the same class all four years. |
Students who are taking band, chorus, or art classes need to do health in the summer. YMMV if your kid isn't in the fine arts. |
Not true. It is offered all year. |
Exactly kids that want a lot of music and art don’t want to waste a class period on health. You can take it in the summer or online during the school year. |
Never seen then this offered or mentioned at either of my kids HS |
It's not offered by the schools, but from central office: https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/onlinelearning/courses/ |
Got that, but you would think they would mention it? |
| How is the class structured? Do they take a lot of online exams? I have a student with an IEP and she sometimes needs extra time. Would they accommodate that? If she does not do well is there an opportunity to take it over? |
I think if you say to your counselor something like, "I just don't know when I will fit health into my schedule, aargh, how will I graduate on time?" the counselor will say, "there are online options during the school year and over the summer, maybe one of those will work." |
