Why is there nothing between Rec and Low level travel?

We tried the find the lowest key, lowest level travel team we could and DC is still the “worst” kid on the team and barely plays. I guess we will stick the year out but I don’t think this is for us.

I don’t understand why there isn’t a third choice - a league of kids like DC who were the top 1-3 kids on their Rec team but have no interest in sitting the bench in travel, private coaching or playing in college.

We are in this boat with baseball. DS playing on a MD travel team and he's not getting a ton of playing time. He likes the intensity of practice, wants to play 2-3 games a week, prefers to play with other kids who share his commitment/interest level, and he's willing to put in the extra work for outside lessons etc BUT he is a little kid and we are running up a size/strength issue. A travel lite option would be a great way to buy him some time to grow and get stronger, but sadly I don't think that exists. He has no intention of playing in college, but he does hope to play in HS so travel is really the only option to get that caliber of reps.
