| We make $400k, grandparents pay $80k for tuition for 2 kids, we’re saving for college but they’re saying they can pay that too. |
| 4 kids, $2 million HHI |
| Wow. There are a lot of very generous grandparents. My parents are quite comfortable and we have a good relationship with them, but I can't imagine them ever paying for our kids' tuition. |
| $2m HHI. We just switched one kid to private from public at 50k. We will probably switch our other kid in a year or two. |
I know, right?! |
We have the only grandchildren on either side. Neither of our parents were super rich (for instance, my dad was a teacher and then an attorney for a state government) but they lived very simply and managed to save money which grew (my parents have maybe $5 million now at 80?). They continue to live simply with almost zero expenses (only food, home owner's insurance, property taxes, utilities and incidentals). They traveled a lot in their late 60s and early 70s but that is now over and they prefer to say home (we try to get them to go places but they have no interest). My inlaws are similar so each set of grandparents pay for one kid's private tuition. My parents really, really value education. They were the children of immigrants and it was drilled into their brains from an early age. There is literally nothing that would make them happier than to spend their money on educating the grandchildren. We said no to their offer(s) for many years and our kids attended public from PK-8th. |
Not necessarily. Married to big law partner and close to a million but not over yet. |
| 4 kids. 60k out of 200k. Ouch. |
My spouse is a big law partner and his salary is about $2.2-2.8 million. I am a SAHM. |
I would help my grandkids no question. My parents are very comfortable and are so stingy they will not even get my kids birthday gifts. You can't die with it and if family is your priority its a lovely thing to do. |
| $2 million HHI. One kid in private at $20,000 and two in public. Not a dime of financial aid. |
Not a dime of FA …. Ya think? |
| HHI 92K. Tuition 16K. |
One big law partner. |
